I was quite shocked by it

it was SOOOOOOO bad

And the denoument was suprising only because it was so bloody obvious (am trying not to give anything away but feck me if it wasn't the all round weirdy)

Crazy as Chocolate was quite good, the Disney ending aside, but jesus, I want the 2 hours of my life i spent reading TAD back.

It was WORSE than "We need to talk about Kevin" and thats saying something.

I needed to share that

So glad you hated 'we need to talk about kevin'. My friend lent me that saying it was brilliant...I hated it.

DimpledThighs · 11/04/2007 08:18

I thougth you were talking about a book called "Christ the Abortionist Daughter"

Wow contraversial Christ was a womana nd crried out abortions.

But then I twigged (not had my coffee yet!)

I hate it when you read a book that is bad. I have "we need to talk about Kevin" waiting to be read as my friend read it and wants to talk to someone about it.

Not looking forward to that now.

coleyboy · 11/04/2007 08:18

I agree. It had a obvious storyline and was really quite a boring read. It could have been so much better.

I expected more from a Richard & Judy book club choice!!

FillyjonkIsMilitantAboutFruit · 11/04/2007 08:20

i expected more from waitrose, they had the two elisabeth hoye (?) on promotion.

i have been going there of late, its a 30 minute drive but i don't care, they always have posh food on offer, they have little child trolleys which my kids love and also, they are near the beach.

I am sad that waitrose has let me down.

ah yes, just read the liner notes on this one in Asda and put it straight back on the shelf!

DimpledThighs · 11/04/2007 08:38

hey filly - I drive 30 minutes to a waitrose - I understand the camping coffee thing so much better now!

FillyjonkIsMilitantAboutFruit · 11/04/2007 08:46

ok what can i read next then

whats notes on a scandal like?

OP posts:
DimpledThighs · 11/04/2007 09:17

No 1 ladies detective agency - A. McCall Smith
Case Histories - Kate Atkinson
Wicked - some bloke
Kite Runner - Khalid Hussein

Waht kind of stuff do you like?

DimpledThighs · 11/04/2007 09:17

didn't like notes on a scandal bu lots of people did.

FillyjonkIsMilitantAboutFruit · 11/04/2007 10:08

dunno really, have read most of the old books but looking for vaguely easy read. not chicklit or thrillers or anything really just a bit less demanding.

kite runner i think is next

OP posts:
purplemonkeydishwasher · 11/04/2007 10:10

i'vew got kite runner to read next. so let me know how that goes!
i read No 1 ladies detective agency and didn't really enjoy it.

DaisyMOO · 11/04/2007 15:09

I didn't much like The Abortionist's Daughter either. I've just read a couple of Philippa Gregory books - The Other Boleyn Girl and The Virgin's Lover (or something). They're a fairly light read, writing is OK and I quite enjoyed them. Restless by William Boyd was pretty good, light reading too.

I'm desperate for some new books myself - the good and bad thing about still breastfeeding is that I gallop through books.

that Case Histories (read it on cod's recommendation) is very good if a little weirdy

DimpledThighs · 11/04/2007 18:55

love love love case histories - didn;t know anyone who has read it.

Love the whole mystery outside the box feel to it. Very good in SO many ways!

mummytosteven · 12/04/2007 20:38

Thought it was surprisingly lightweight given the themes, but didn't think it was that bad. agree about the predictability, mind,.

tassis · 12/04/2007 20:41

I've just read The Island and liked it

drosophila · 12/04/2007 20:43

Shit it is on my list but I find it hard ot read now and really need the book to be good. I am reading the Jane Austin Book Club now and to be honest not sucked me in yet.

FillyjonkIsMilitantAboutFruit · 13/04/2007 08:07

have read lots of kate atkinson, not taken, but that was pre kids. i am finding i like lots of books more (and some less) since kids. early susan hill and lionel scriver i no longer like for eg

drosophila · 14/04/2007 20:25

Funny the effect having kids has on your reading. I used to read a book a week and now lucky if I do 6 a year.

potoroo · 14/04/2007 20:37

I totally agree - the book was rubbish. I only got 1/2 of the way through before giving up.

Drosophila - I am with you on the Jane Austin Club. Couldn't really get into it. Love Kate Atkinson though.
