Doesn't cry at anything

I cry when it's sad, I cry when it's happy - I cry even if I have read it 20 times before

Have I just not found the right book for her?
Is it because she isn't hormonal yet

So far she hasn'tr cried to
The Railway Children
Goodnight Mister Tom
The little Princess
Tom's midnight Garden

& loads of other I can't just think of now

Is this a major character flaw....does she take after her dad?

What can I give her to make her cry (because I always feel better afterwards)

Katymac · 09/04/2007 21:06

The 6th Harry Potter is a tear-jerker. I read it straight through, cried, immediately re-read it to see if I'd missed anything and cried AGAIN! Even dd1 admitted to having a little sniffle.

MrsBadger · 09/04/2007 21:27

I didn't cry over books till I was about 17
don't try to make her cry on purpose, tbh to me that just sounds mean!

Katymac · 09/04/2007 21:30

MrsBadge - I found (& still find) it an emotional release - I can get upset (probably becauyse it doesn't matter)

She has had a rotten few weeks and I had her in tears last week, absolutly hysterical over virtually nothing - I wondered if crying over a book would be easier for her?

katymac - i'm like you - emotional release in tears and books help.

Black beauty still gets me years later as does little women, watership down etc.

has she tried watching dramatisations of the various books. I cry when watching Mister tom, little princess etc.

Katymac · 09/04/2007 21:36

Nah - that hasn't worked either

i've cried at books and movies since i was a little kid but most of my friends didn't... i was always the laughing stock in the cinema

LucyJones · 09/04/2007 21:37

I cried at many a book but never in front of my mum

DimpledThighs · 09/04/2007 21:37

i think it is an adult thing - I sobbed as I read ds charlottes web and he kept saying what's wrong mummy it's only a story.

I think they distinguish between reality and fiction more than we do.

madrose · 09/04/2007 21:38

My DH takes the p greatly when I have a sob. often try and blame it on him

PinkTulips · 09/04/2007 21:41

dp thinks it's hilarious too

Katymac · 09/04/2007 21:42

So does my DH (& funnily enpough my dad does too)

My mum & I are jsut the same

goodnight mister tom made me cry when i taught it but not when i read it as a child because i was in my comfy loving home and it was all the same as snow white to me - as an adult you know it could be true

janeite · 09/04/2007 21:49

Oh and I also wept as I read "Skellig" to my class a few weeks ago - they all pretended not to notice! A truly gorgeous book.

Katymac · 09/04/2007 22:07

I googled that & it looks so sad - I must get a copy
