Can anyone recommend any good ghost stories?

Highly recommend E.F. Benson's ghost stories. He was very much inspired by the great M.R. James, who has already been mentioned upthread.

ShowMePotatoSalad- Agreed. The Room in the Tower is utterly terrifying, as is Negotium Perambulans, which has a horrible giant slug in it.
