Challenge to find a childhood fav, hardly any details!

As a child I was a bookworm. My mum used to offer to sell me to the bookshop as she spent so much money on books for me!

We also went to the local, tiny, library. I have very limited memories of a favourite book that I used to get out time after time, I'm sure my mum dreaded it! I'm sure she would remember it for the number of times I borrowed it if nothing else but sadly she's no longer around to ask.

I think that there were 2 or 3 books about the same boy. He lived in a block of flats. I think his name began with a T. I can see a drawing from the book, of him walking down a squareish stairwell in the flats. I think that one of the books was about him having a new sibling. It was a picture book, late 1970s. Reading interest similar to Topsy and Tim, but with a more interesting story! These are the details as I remember them, I have a reasonable memory but even I'm not convinced that I've correctly remembered the details or the most important bits!!

PLEASE help MN, it's keeping me up late at night and I've no idea how else to find the answer.

Shirley Huges, Angel Mae has a picture of them walking up the stairs, with Mae refusing tk walk because she wants to be carried. The main charcter is a girl but she has a brother, and a new baby in the end.

Alfie Atkins?

Thanks both.

I should also have said that I'm a primary school teacher so familiar with lots of picture books.

It's not Shirley Hughes, the illustrations didn't have that sketchy quality to them, more photo like. It's not Alfie Atkins, the illustrations were less cartoon like, more realistic.

Think it's probably a book that's out of print?

The only vaguely similar series I can think of is Mark and Mandy, but they don't begin with a T and I don't remember a story about a new baby. Think Mark might have lived in a flat though, and the stories were similar to Topsy and Tim but better.
