Possibly picking up Stephen King again

I was a huge Stephen King fan back in the day, although I never read The Dark Half or The Talisman, I enjoyed all of his other books up to The Tommyknockers. I remember trying to read that on holiday in 1989 thought it was terrible and gave up. I didn't like Dolores Claiborne, The Dark Half, Rose Madder. The last one that I enjoyed was Gerald's Game. So, I pretty much stopped reading his new stuff in the mid 1990s although I've re-read most of the earlier ones several times.

If you're familiar with much of his work, do you think it would be worth me trying some of his more recent stuff and if so can you suggest a few titles, or should I just accept that his style is no longer for me?

Insomnia is awful. Just so awful. Under the Dome has a truly rubbish ending. I like some of his collections- Different Seasons and Four Past Midnight especially. Needful Things is one I like that many people don't much seem to. Of a Buick 8 (might not have the title right) is so bad it's almost good.

INsomina is my favourite! Isn't it funny how books can divide opinion :). I'm re reading The Stand. I love The Dark Tower series and his older books. hated The girl who lived tom Gordon though. I've got DD who is 11 started - easing her in with Eyes of the Dragon the new I'll hit her with Carrie and Cujo i think

Some of the phrases from IT seem etched in my memory and actually get stuck in my head like a song occasionally Confused. I love him but haven't read a book for ages his latest ones. I loved pet semetary, the shining, girl who loved Tom Gordon and the long walk.

Actually took me few goes to get through the stand for some reason despite it being lauded as his best.

Will read other authors but have been coming back to him since I was a teen (am 40 next year)

I really enjoyed Joyland. Also just finished The Fireman by Joe Hill and found it incredible, I had to read it in large chunks because I couldn't put it down, and when I finished it I couldn't sleep for thinking about it. Amazing.

Did anyone like Desperation? I gave up half way through - was just bored. Part of me would quite like to know what happens but I just can't be bothered to read it.

Glad to see Joyland getting some love on here.
