Received my book a the weekend. Not normally what I would have picked up based on the information the back, but really starting to enjoy the initial story as it's quite intriguing.

FawnDrench · 16/08/2017 20:13

Thanks very much for the copy of this slightly creepy, and mesmerising book.

I just couldn't put it down - it's simply ages since I've read a book I found so gripping. I read it in a day and night, I just couldn't leave it.

It starts slowly and quite methodically, and then before I knew it, it had sucked me in, very very skilfully I thought.
I didn't want to finish it, but at the same time I couldn't wait to find out what really happened.

I won't give lots of details about the plot/mystery even though I was sure I knew who the culprit was, but then I kept changing my mind - it really was a page-turner for me.

I didn't really respect, admire or even warm to any of the characters - I thought they were all a bit unpleasant, some were downright hideous, most were nasty and all seemed somewhat flawed apart from Drew.
But they were all driven by their own relentless personal or vicarious ambitions, and the author was brilliant at writing about this sort of perversely driven and focused behaviour- all quite believable in the context of the plot/gymnastics.
And the fact that I really didn't like the characters didn't matter at all, or spoil my enjoyment of the book in the slightest, as they were all (almost) credible in a "this is a thriller, you must suspend belief" kind of way.

The only thing I would query is the title itself - "You will know me" - just couldn't work out who was supposed to know who - does it relate to a book character or is it directed at the reader? And who is it about?

Otherwise, an absorbing, twisty, pacy and darkly compelling book. Fabulous.

countingdown · 18/08/2017 23:22

Thanks for my copy. It's 11.20pm and I'm halfway through - not sure I can stop reading!

duggerlugs · 20/08/2017 13:12

Thanks for the opportunity to read....ivw read this book in 2 2 hour sitting whilst my little girl had a sleep.. it was gripping enough to keep going but the ending was a little unbelievable in the sense there wasn't retribution or consequence.. won't explain too much whilst people are still reading.
I did enjoy seeing a dream from each family perspective ie Devon, Drew and parents and really felt for Drew throughout. It was sensitively written and not too gratuitous in detail. I've read a similar story about a parents dedication which ended in a similar way but can't recall title. It's worth the read and perfect to make you reflect on how far you could push your child in pursuit of things.

IreadthereforeIam · 24/08/2017 22:22

What a great book! Who knew I could enjoy a book that was about so many unlikeable people?! It was very suspenseful - I thought I knew who had 'done it' by about halfway through, but boy was I wrong! This isn't something that I would have necessarily picked up to buy and read, I'm not the sportiest of people, but occasionally I'll take a chance if I like the look of a book cover. I'm glad I did that with this book (and thank you for sending it to me!). It was fast paced, exciting and a bit of an education, actually. Never having been one of those 'pushy' mothers, this made me quite relieved of that fact! A good read that I will definitely be recommending to my friends!

tregeln · 05/09/2017 11:35

Thanks for a copy of this book.

I liked the gymnastics setting of the story, I have no idea how accurate it is because I know very little about the sport but I found it believable.

The premise for the mystery was good but it just didn't develop into a book I enjoyed.

I didn't warm to any of the characters, they seemed to lack depth. I quite like a character with flaws, someone realistic but I found these characters dull. They didn't make me care about what was happening to them - whether Devon succeeded in her dream, whether relationships survived. Some things were touched on but felt superficial - Katie's past, Drew's role in the family.

The plot itself I found predictable and had already guessed what was happening (not always why but this didn't help) by the time it was revealed. I kept expecting there to be a twist something to surprise me, this didn't happen.

I found the pace of the story slow especially at the beginning. I wasn't gripped by the story, characters or mystery. A third of the way through I had to motivate myself to keep going which I did so I could give it a fair review and I hoped my first impressions were wrong and a clever twist would change my opinion of this book.

This isn't a bad book and I'm sure others will enjoy it but unfortunately it just wasn't for me.

countingdown · 05/09/2017 17:27

I really enjoyed this book, but as tregeln mentioned, the start was a bit slow and it did take me a while to get into it. When I did I was gripped and would have read into the wee small hours to finish it.
Whilst the beginning was slow, I thought the end was a bit rushed. As a previous poster mentioned I'm a bit unsure about the actual title and how this relates to the plot.
Overall, I did enjoy this. Thanks again for sending it to me.

jonniesmum · 05/09/2017 18:12

I wasn't sure once I started reading this book, if I would like the context of it being set in the competitive world of child gymnastics. However, I soon found myself immersed in the world as Katie sees everything she has known pulled from under her feet. It soon became a case of mystery, intrigue and murder which I wasn't really expecting.I loved the relationships - some excellent characters and great insight into the teenage mind

Shoom72 · 05/09/2017 18:50

Thanks for my book, I am in two minds if I enjoyed this book, the fever and if I would recommend it. It is very weird and not really scary but I did read it very quickly but I did feel let down by not really finding out the cause of the fever, left feeling unfulfilled.

kateandme · 05/09/2017 23:03

Love this type of suspense.loved this book.it gives that dRkness perfectly and has plenty of gasp moments.I will be looking for more by this author

Givemecoffeeplease · 06/09/2017 20:58

I really enjoyed this! It felt like a guilty pleasure - a gripping thriller about a close knit family. I also enjoyed the gymnastics setting - altho it's put me off for life!

Devon's character was perfectly drawn - or drew the line between cold teen and potential murderer perfectly. (This is not a spoiler!). I will look out for more from this author. Thanks Mumsnet.

4isplenty · 10/09/2017 15:31

I loved this book, really truly loved it. The story was intriguing from the beginning, I had my nose stuck in the pages until I finished, it's lucky that my household managed to take care of itself, I was unreachable for that time.
I don't know anything about gymnastics but this made no difference to the intensity of this tale.
It was gripping.I thoroughly recommend.

melanieb32 · 11/09/2017 15:14

Just started reading the copy I won and have to say hasn't grabbed me yet and is seeming a bit chore like to read, this one is a bit slow to get going, will stick with it a bit longer and see if it grabs me.

ClaireC101 · 18/09/2017 22:00

Just finished the book and throughout wasn't quite sure where it was going. Took a while for me to get in to it. But towards the end felt more intrigued. Felt that some of the story didn't relate to the main thread and was a little distracting.

Overall the book was OK. But still not sure I would pick it up based on the information on the back.

SorchaMumsnet · 28/09/2017 17:40
