Anyone read it? Winner of the Pulitzer Prize this year, and our current book club choice. It's a brilliant book, but so harrowing in places, I'm not sure I can finish it. I'm just hoping for a positive, if not happy ending?

Bought a copy this morning. Won't be reading it just yet though- don't feel up to harrowing books atm, but it does look good.

Keep reading - it is harrowing but v worth it.

I felt exactly the same way and read it in a couple of days because I couldn't bear it, but also found it completely brilliant. Keep going, you will be glad you read the whole thing when you get to the end.

I finished it last night. You are all right, it was well worth continuing to the end, a very memorable read, but so upsetting. One of those books you can't forget.

Definitely keep going. Harrowing but so important we read and remember these events

It's very good. But yes, harrowing.

I really want to read it but I have a feeling its going to be very very violent, I even struggled with Beloved and that was very subtle

TizzyDongue · 09/08/2017 11:02

There are parts that are harrowing and one particular part violent.

I too was concerned aboit it disturbing me (was also a bookclub choice) but once I got over the idea the underground railroad had been made actual I really liked it.

this is also very very good, its imaginary and doesn't move away but is so imaginative and memorable, also about slavery

The audiobook was beautifully read and somehow softened the harrowing elements. I really enjoyed it.
