I'm about 3/4 of the way through and finding it really hard going. For the first time in my entire life I am contemplating not finishing a book - Someone tell me why I should perservere? What am I missing??

To be fair to Zadie, I loved the bit about the black women in the hairdressers. and some other bits.

Anachronisms - don't you wear those on the end of a chain in your waistcoat pocket? Or am I thinking of a chronicle? Or a monocle? Or a manacle?...

I loved White Teeth until the last 100 pages or so when it went off the boil completely. I also agree about bad research, her info about Jehovah's Witnesses was skewed to say the least.

Oh and I thought On Beauty was pants, not in the same league as White Teeth at all.

I'm ploughing on, because I just can't seem to stop reading a book, I've invested lots of time in it already - I should see it through. But, I am now happy that I am not the only person that is baffled by the acclaim this book received! Thanks everyone.
