What ridiculously trashy books/authors do you love?

Not the likes of Georgette Heyer (not truly trashy IMO), but the really indefensible.

Mine is Cassandra Clare - I'm currently eking out her latest book, ignoring the massive plot holes (and improbable lack of communication without which things would be resolved in about 2 chapters) in the certain knowledge that it'll no doubt end on a cliffhanger which won't be resolved until book 3 in about 2 years time.

Hester Browne

Anyone could accidentally meet a vet who turns out to be the heir to the throne of a European principality surely.

Totally agree with Nicholas Sparks. Funnily enough I think his books actually make better films. Smile They always remind me of the Danielle Steele films that used to be on Sunday afternoons. I used to love those when I was a teenager.

I like crap 1970s horror about things like giant slugs that eat people.

Sophie Kinsella, Catherine Alliot (all her books feature characters called Imogen, Mollie and Olivia and all the characters add "witty little scarves" to their outfits.) and I love M. C. Beaton. Smile

Victoria Fox - trashy with nice locations and plenty of sex!

JemimaLovesHamble · 17/10/2017 13:23

Laura Childs - The Tea Shop Mysteries. But she's very hard to find in print over here Sad

Virginia Andrews. I know most people loved Flowers in the Attic, but I always loved the Heaven Casteel saga. I used to have a ton her books, but stopped buying them many years ago when they started churning them out by the bucket load with a ghost writer. They just all followed the same pattern and became tiresome.

That's very interesting to hear, because I thought Flowers in the Attic was a decent read really, but the following books in the series were just ridiculously bad. (Of course if she did write those, then I've lost all interest again!)

Awww the Chalet School is amazing. I reread all the books I have last year and they are so not trashy Grin

My trashy love is all the books by C J Archer -a kind of Victorian Gothic meets sci-fi/magic world where there are ghost hunters, ladies in big dresses meeting werewolves etc.......brilliantly good fun and the girl is always beautiful and exotic whilst the men are dark and brooding!

Cassandra Clare, Kelly Armstrong, PC Cast and 100x YES to Jilly Cooper!!!

I'm mid way through Pandora for the hundredth time again after a Jilly hiatus and forgot just how amazing she is!

I'm glad I've found this!
So many authors I like, which gives me hope that the others suggested will be right up my street.

Just coming back to this thread to add another book I reckon a lot of you trashy-book-lovers might like. Copying my review from the 50 books thread below . . .

"Spectred Isle by KJ Charles: After court-martial and disgrace in the 1st world war, Oxford educated archaeologist Saul has taken the only job he can get - with an eccentric elderly major who believes in all things supernatural. Whilst following his employers various whims, he keeps bumping into the charming but reticent Randolph Glyde . . .

This was a recommendation from Ann Leckie's blog, and is an absolutely delightful paranormal romance. Great characters (including the various side characters) excellent worldbuilding, enough but not too much of the romance, and a good plot to carry the whole thing along. It's the first in a series, and I'll definitely read more when they come out. I'm also going to have a look at KJ Charles' other series"
