Thank you for letting me know to expect this great prize. I have just emailed several friends to tell them about it in the hope we can get a book club off the ground.

I'm not part of a book club but have read this. I really liked the concept and the way the characters just keep missing each other. However, I didn't really engage with the female character - I found her a bit wet.

got mine today! hooked already could be a late night xxx

I've just finished this- not part of a book club. I enjoyed the book and liked the idea, but hated the ending!

Possible spoilers
The ending just felt so rushed, I really disliked the way the characters acted in that last chapter and for me, it spoiled the book as I had enjoyed the rest.

I've just started a new job and created a mini club at work with colleagues who enjoy a read. Right now I'm 3/4 of the way through and. Most of us have discussed similarities to people we've known or experiences. I lost my mum to cancer so was sobbing at the story 30 pages in.
I've given a copy to someone who has had cancer so it was sensitive to discuss. The empathy with main character over her fears struck a chord with me although I could see how she had given up much of her dreams and not looked after herself.

Looking forward to seeing how the story ends as are my colleagues as we're at various bits of the book. It's been a good way to get to know new work mates so glad I've had the opportunity to review. It's a great product test..just got to find out what my neighbour thinks too.

I read this when it came out. I really enjoyed it, particularly the references to different events as it maps my lifetime.

Agree the ending was rushed though. And I liked him better than her.

Finished the book...Tess had such a run of bad luck that we discussed how we all knew someone who just had rubbish things happen to them even though they were nice. One thing Leo said struck a chord with me in how I look at being active all the time when he referred to his in tray. A good analogy for me to share with new work colleagues on the way I am.
The book touched on a number of sensitive issues and had a good way of layering the story so you could see it unfold. A really nice book to read and thought provoking at points.

I won this book, and I have now held my book club discussion.

Overall we thought that the book was well written, pacy and dealt with some difficult themes sensitively. The cover didn't really do the book justice as a number of us assumed this would be "lighter" than it was.

Lots of us warmed to Tess and the idea that she had had to give up on her ambitions to look after her sister. She really grew as a character throughout the book and her loss of her mum was felt keenly. We agreed it was movingly handled.

We were divided on Gus. Some of us felt he gave up the fight too easily about his children and was too passive. His treatment of Lucy was dreadful and it was hard to be sympathetic when he behaved so badly. Others disagreed and felt given what he had gone through he was in someway unable to cope.

On the whole we liked the structure of the book with it jumping in time and mirroring events. However, like others, the ending felt rushed and more than one of us wasn't wholly sold on the idea of Tess and Gus being soulmates.

Overall we all agreed it was a pretty good read, touching on some themes of loss and hurt and it was well written.

Thank you Mumsnet! I enjoyed this & have now passed it on with the other copies. It will be interesting to hear what the book club think of it - one person I've spoken to so far said that she really liked it too.

As the reviews say, the concept is similar to "One Day", by David Nicholls, which I read some time ago. An interesting difference was that in that book, written by a man, I found the female character far more sympathetic, whereas in this one, written by a woman, I related more to the male. I have been trying to analyse why!

I too found the ending a bit weak - too rushed - but in other respects the book was good, very well-written and plotted, touching on several interesting themes, with rounded characters.

Thank you Mumsnet for the opportunity to have a go at a book club. I got a group together from among my friends together with a friend of a friend. Half the group had been to book clubs before so were able to give us a lead. We discussed the book using the Reading Group Guide to start us off.
Overall we felt that the book was a pleasant light read but although it presented some serious issues it did not say much that was particularly profound about them. For us the premise of the book was too contrived - all the near misses when Tess and Gus could have got together - and in no way convinced us of the idea that there is one person only for each of us. We enjoyed reading about Tess a little more than Gus (though felt sorry he suffered so greatly from his parents' partiality for his brother) but Doll came out as the favourite character for many in the group.
We enjoyed our evening but would be looking to read something more
challenging if we decide to carry on with a book club. We had fun discussing some of our favourite books and authors along the way.

A big thank you to mumsnet for supplying miss you for our book group. A well written thought provoking read, which gave us plenty to get our teeth into. Love loss guilt huge emotions with plenty of personal experience in our group really opened the flood gates.one member had nursed her daughter for 8 years with breast cancer followed 18 months later by her husband. Her one remaining child a son has had a very tough time with life and has even struggled to find time to grieve properly.we discussed at length the idea that we all often give our lost family a more exhaled status than was accurate, but found this to be quite normal, looking back at the good rather than the bad. We brought a lot of emotion out and felt better for it. So thank you, the book was a tool to deal with big issues, but also brought us smiles.i agree the cover gave a more lighter feel than the narrative, but a good book worth reading and passing on
