I am not normally in to horror/gore/zombie books, I do my best to avoid them usually, but I actually really enjoyed The Girl With All The Gifts. I loved the explanation for how the zombies were caused, I really liked Melanie and I thought the ending was great.

Can anyone recommend something similar? I don't want anything too scary/gory because I'm a chicken!

Station Eleven is fantastic.

badhotfanny · 22/04/2017 19:27

They are YA but The Fear series by Charlie Higson is sort of similar.

Following as I never usually read books like this but really enjoyed this one.

Saucery · 22/04/2017 19:50

His second book, Fellside is also good, but a little grittier.

Fizzball · 22/04/2017 20:03

Ooh, I already have Station Eleven so will start that one next. The Fear series also looks interesting. Thanks!

Jilted, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it! Not your typical zombie novel I don't think.

I added Fellside to my list but I'm worried about the ghost element. I really am a huge chicken and I'm scared of ghosts and demons... Blush I might have to wait to read it until after I give birth because I know I will end up with nightmares otherwise!

It is very sad too (Fellside). He doesn't really do 'cheery' Grin

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/04/2017 08:52

Saucery thanks for that, hadn't realised he'd written another book.

Fizz yes perhaps wait until the hormones have settled down a bit Smile

Fellside, his other book is also good.

Foxylass · 24/04/2017 22:17

Fellside is brilliant and not very 'ghosty'.
I've thoroughly enjoyed both books.....

Another great read is David Mitchells The Bone Clocks.
Oh and his Slade House.

littlerach · 01/05/2017 20:11

I loved Girl with all the Gifts :)
I have just started The First Fifiteen Lives of Harry August, based on recommendations from people - it is like an odd time travel but not typical time travel...

Dark Eden by Chris Beckett

Try " The Fireman" by Joe Hill

Fruitcocktail6 · 01/05/2017 20:16

Following! I didn't know there was another one coming out, my mum bought me Girl with all the Gifts for Christmas and i loved it.

Foxylass

Does the Bone Clocks get any better, I'm about 1/5 of the way in and it's driving me a bit insane. Too wordy and rambling and I don't have a clue what's going on.

shewhoshall · 01/05/2017 20:21

The bone clocks does get better Fruit. I know exactly what you mean. I struggled loads with it but keep going!

Fruitcocktail6 · 01/05/2017 21:00

Thank you! I will.

Foxylass · 02/05/2017 19:29

**Fruitcocktail6

Yes, stick with it.

DustOffYourHighestHopes · 02/05/2017 19:36

You all are my book soulmates.

Loved Station eleven, Dark Eden etc.

How about the Passage? Zombie/survival, v popular. So famous, it's referred to in Station eleven.

Harry August didn't disappoint, both in premise and conclusion.

EleanorRigbysNeice · 03/05/2017 08:26

Watching, as coming to the end of Girl with all the Gifts. 😊

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 03/05/2017 08:33

World War Z is a superb book. The film however is complete bollox and nothing to do with the book :)
