What a lovely but very very sad book when DP came to bed last night I was crying my eyes out to which he said "why do you put yourself through it?". Not sure why I do but its just unimaginable to me that people actually carry on with their lives when their child dies. I know you do of course but its hard to put myself in that position tbh.

I have this on my shelf, waiting to be read. Been putting it off, as my dd has the same name, not sure i could cope with it.

It is quite heartbreaking, always is when children are involved.

whats the book about??

A little girl of 3 gets cancer in her tummy and they do all they can to fight it but unfortunately she dies, so very sad, it is a true story which makes it even more sad.

I've never 'met' anyone else who has read this book. It is a beautiful, brave book, but very, very sad. i read it whilst pregnant with my DS1 not fully realising what it was about. I was drawn to the red shoes on the cover, because as a little girl, my 2 sisters and I were desperate to own red shoes when we were suppost to wear brown or black to school and my mum said that life was too short not to own and wear red shoes, I cried lots when I got to that bit in the book!

I think sometimes its good for us to read something which is so awful to imagine. Our children are so young for such a short time and noone knows what lies ahead. It makes you want to hold your children close and cherish them.

I read this a while back and found it very moving, one of the few books that I have openly blubbed most of the way through, also found that this book and it's sequel (which I can't remember the name of) were quite an insight into what happens to a family when they go through something very traumatic and why often this ends in the break-up of the family.
