Find out what Mumsnetters thought of Bear Grylls Adventure series for children

To celebrate the release of Bear Grylls' new adventure series for kids, we gave away a whopping 250 books.

Each story in the 12-book series follows a different child on camp as they receive a magical compass, allowing them to travel to an amazing place where they meet Bear himself, and learn new skills and facts that they can take back with them to real life. The books are suitable for children aged 5-7.

We ask all winners to share their child's thoughts about either The Blizzard Challenge or The Desert Challenge on this discussion thread. Everyone who gives detailed feedback on either book by 5pm, Friday 9 June will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 Love2shop voucher:

Read with my son and he loved the illustrations too. Great concept of overcoming fears in simple ways, interesting enough to keep entertained

Just as a follow up the book has been through my daughter & nephew & she is now passing it round the kids in her class. It is a big hit particularly with the boys. We love the way that Bear can engage the kids. Excellent. We are looking at getting other books in the series.

My 8 year old son recieved the Blizzard Challange and he loved it. He has always been a reluctant reader, but this one hit the right button - it was the first novel he has ever read independently, and he immediately asked for me to order him the Desert Challange, which I did, and he loved that too. He loves animals and adventure, and these books really appealed to him. When pressed, he said he loved the bit where the main character had to dance around naked to warm up when he'd fallen in icy water, and he found it absolutely hilarious.
We will look out for more books in this series.

My 10 year old granddaughter, loved the Blizzard Challenge. Just starting the Guides so she was thrilled to have it. She said it was very exciting but hoped she wouldn't have to camp in the snow! Thank you again Mumsnet.
