For those who read a lot of books, how?

I realised lately that I could read more if I stopped wasting hours on Facebook & boards!
Is that how people read so many books? I am also slow at reading too. Just curious how some people get through so many books.?

I absolutely LOVE this question!

Yes. I'm not on FB at all, and have no interest in it. I also avoid any suggestions of things to watch on YouTube. Remember that most of it is, exactly as you say, a waste of time. I also tend to have more than one book going, and will carry something with me, whether a book or a magazine, if I'm expecting travel time or waiting time.

I'm quite a slow reader,I think. I always take way longer to read a Kindle book than it thinks I should.
I read while feeding and settling the baby. I'm also able to go out in the evenings much less since having the baby, so am making a real effort to use that time to read instead of faffing online.

I ve been deliberately trying to read even a few pages in bed before sleep.

Need to be more conscious of surfing on line.

I read an average of a book a week. I manage that because I commute one hour each way to work on the train, and also because I lie with my daughter while she falls asleep (a lot less annoying since I got a kindle). My kindle is always with me, so I tend to read while eating solo meals, waiting for the bath to pour, stuck in a queue etc.

I made a promise to myself to read 20books this year as I died to do 5x That and now the children are older there's really no excuse for not making the time instead of pratting around doing nothing on the internet, also I want them to see me enjoying reading.

Just finished book 7 so goes to show what some willpower does, although in fairness two of these were Roald Dahl books I've read in the evenings with DS, and 2 were audiobooks. But I just directed my first audiobook so have decided it's also good for my career to listen to as well as read books and I spend bloody hours in the car so it's time well spent

I'm in the states and we have an app called OverDrive, you can download and borrow audiobooks (and ebooks) into your device from your library, which is free and amazing - maybe there's something similar? Because I agree audible is expensive ($12.99 here!)

deliveredbykiki I have lost the cable to charge my ancient kindle 😔

My library has a limited amount of audio books but they take up too much space on my (useless) 8g phone. DH has offered to buy me a Samsung so that I have more storage and bigger screen to read kindle books on the go and/or audible subscription!!
May wait for my birthday for that as I am also on they "no buying books in 2017" thread!!

I listen to Audible when driving or doing housework.

I read an actual book or ebook when I have time to kill waiting around for kids, or at bedtime. I often set aside a day or half a day a week for a good reading binge, when I do very little else apart from drink tea and read while the kids are at school. I don't do it all the time, but now and then if I feel I haven't had a good session for a while.

I read at average pace I would say. I read forty odd books last year - a mix of audio, paper and E books. Fiction, non-fiction and children's books.

I have at least two on the go at once and a never ending list of things I want to read.

I just love books and reading.

booty does no-one in the house have an android tablet or phone? They use the same charger.

Or just buy a kindle paperwhite instead of a phone as the reading experience is much nicer.

bootygirl · 12/02/2017 16:28

I might look into kindle paper weight.

I go to bed an hour earlier to read. My Goodreads challenge is 100 books, but I'm studying literature full time after the summer, so I might not make it! I love reading, I try and remember to take my kindle everywhere with me. It's really the only hobby I have.
