DS likes ... spot books, farmyard and zoo animal books (the ones with lots of pictures with a word underneath and no story), That's not my Dragon (they also do, that's not my fairy, that's not my dinasaur etc in the series). Thomas the tank engine books. He likes flap books, but unfortunately rips them a bit roughly so they now have lots of sticky tape. Also, the wibbly pig books are popular, especially a couple of months ago. Sorry, don't know prices ...
We don't really differentiate between bedtime books and books during the day ... he has his favourites for weeks at a time and then we read them ... again and again and again!

I founr the best bedtime books are where the main charater goes to bed/falls asleep in the end. Nothing too exiting tbh.

Ian Whybrow's Wobble Bear and Wobble Bear say Yello are still faves with DS. I got them from Redhouse books. There are some great ideas here anyway so here's the link

Kids books

And the local library is a good start too

We read for about 10 mins or so at nap time and bed time and then at other times during the day when he feels like it or we do ... and I agree with post below that says do it as long as you and dd want. 10 mins or so works for us, as it's enough of a quiet wind down for him to relax but not so long that we are endlessly reading more and more stories (by that time we are ready for him to be in bed! ) (Plus we have older dd to put to bed too and they are different age groups, so usally get different stories.)
Another book we have just started reading is "What shall we do with the BOO HOO baby?" and we read "10 in a bed and the little one said" ... the other night and he loved that too.
DD at same age (2 - 3 years old) liked Green Eggs and Ham, We are going on a bear hunt, Where are you Blue Kangaroo?
Oh so many lovely books ... head for the library!

MagicalMay · 19/02/2007 12:31

Im writing these all down, i think i'll do some online shopping tonight hehe

Oh and another vote for Lullabyhullaballo ... lovely story. The Mick Inkpen books are lovely and would make great 2 year old birthday present.

Lullabyloo · 19/02/2007 12:34

Lady Pen....ds's fav bedtime book since he was about 15m....hence MN name....that's what he called it !

CorrieDale · 19/02/2007 12:36

DS just adores the Julia Donaldson books. I think he likes the rhythm and rhyme. Also Spot, Wibbly Pig, and the Busy Babies series published by Practical Parenting.

RosaLuxembourg · 19/02/2007 13:50

Helen Cooper books are great too. I love the Baby who wouldn't go to bed and Pumpkin Soup. Do buy from Red House books and Book People - they often do very good sets and you get a lot more books for your money that way.
Also another fave bedtime book Peepo by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.

LadyPenelope · 19/02/2007 14:11

Peepo is lovely , also Each Peach Pear Plum ... great for little ones, and my 6 year old still enjoys it - she just gets the jokes now!

Lullabyloo · 19/02/2007 14:39

the Baby who wouldn't go to bed is another of our favourites too...the illustrations are beautiful...

Lullabyloo · 19/02/2007 14:42

The tiger who came to tea
& the Mog series by Judith Kerr also wonderful.
