The Cat and the King is award-winning Nick Sharratt's debut novel. We're giving away 50 copies so head to the giveaway page to apply for yours!

It tells the story of a king who has to live in the real world after an unfortunate incident involving a dragon and his castle. With help from his best friend, a very clever cat, he learns to negotiate his way through supermarkets, bargain hunts and bus queues. But is that the last they've seen of that pesky dragon?

We ask all winners to share their thoughts (and their children's thoughts) about the book on this discussion thread. However, you don't have to win a free copy to take part in the discussion - anyone who has read The Cat and the King can post their feedback here (and you can buy the book now).

Everyone who posts on this thread before 25 October will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 Love2shop voucher.

This giveaway is sponsored by Scholastic

This was a much enjoyed book - a comical twist to every day life is how my daughter described it. Very funny story with lovely illustrations which raised a discussion when it arrived as my daughter was adamant that Nick Sharrat was an illustrator and not an author. Looking forward to his next offering!

I didn't win one but as huge fans of his illustrations in the Jacqueline Wilson books we had to buy this one

It was good for younger reader and I think she will then go on to read Jacqueline wilson books (sorry for mentioning her twice!) like her sister because of the familiarity of the pictures. She liked the cat character best and we have plans to make the shortbread this weekend

My 9 year old really enjoyed this book and talked about it a lot. She is not a big reader so this was really pleasing for me Smile she started reading it to her younger sister which I will be continuing with in the coming days. A big thumbs up from us!

I've really enjoyed reading this book with DD1. She's not quite up to reading it independently, but didn't want to have it all read to her either. We both found it funny and engaging. The pictures are great, as you would expect.
I'd recommend it.

I was very impressed with this book, not only is it a good read and packed full of beautiful illustrations but also very well made with quality materials. I will read it to my four year old, who will love looking at the pictures and making up sub plots about the characters. He will also be able to read some of the words himself and enjoy the jokes. I am sure it is a book that he will keep coming back to for a long time. Thank you for this.

We read this book together, a few chapters each night (10 year old dd and 5 year old ds). They both really enjoyed it and looked forward to it immensely :)

We found there were lots of things which sparked lots of questions and thoughts and ideas and loved the beautiful illustrations too. I thought there were quite funny, subtle jokes like recognising the king's former staff in their new roles and we laughed at the Dad's attitue to the garden party (and likely to be similar to their own dad's).

A lovely story and beautiful book.

My 4 year old daughter and I loved reading this book together. She loved the illustrations and laughed the whole way through it at the King, as we were reminded of the Kings inability to do anything due to his servants. My 6 year old is now looking forward to reading it on her own. I'd definitely recommend this book. It's fun to read along with your child and they will enjoy looking at the illustrations.

We were lucky enough bough to win this book. I wasn't quite sure whether my 5 year old would get the book, but she did indeed. We have now read this book 3 times over, breaking into 3 evening read.

Book is very funny, and well told. Really happy to have read this book. Thank you.

My son enjoyed reading this book and he liked looking at the pictures. He has also liked making the shortbread!
