Apparently, I like urban fantasy books. Any suggestions, please?

I've just finished the Alex Verus series of books and loved them. I'd already read the Rivers of London books and the Harry Dresden books. I've started the Shadow police books, which are ok, but not as enjoyable as the Alex Verus books.
Does anyone have any recommendations of similar books that I might enjoy?

Try the Felix Castor series by Mike Carey - London urban noir with ghosts, werewolves, demons. Cracking stories and well-realised characters. Great stuff.

I've read a few Neil Gaiman books and have enjoyed them, especially The ocean at the end of the lane. I've got American Gods on my to read list, so might give that a go.
CMOT I'd seen The last changing, but wasn't sure whether I fancied it, but I'll add that to the list.
imnot I'm a bit of a wimp, so might give that one a miss.

Black Spark by Al K Line was a bit different and funny in parts, if you're still looking.

I'd suggest trying the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews and/or the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs - both very engaging reads.

If you're going to read Martin Millar (which you really must) then Lux the Poet is his best by a mile.

Kelley Armstrong - The Otherworld series and I second Improvisingnow both of those Authors and series are fab.
Charlaine Harris - Southern Vampire Mysteries, which were behind the series of True Blood.
Chloe Neill - Chicagoland Vampires

Beware the Claws that Catch Alice. This is an excellent complete reimagining of Alice in Wonderland. Very very dark and set in a gritty urban landscape.

Have just filled my Amazon basket again damn you all. I do not have any space left for more books.

I can also recommend anything by Charlaine Harris. If you read her different series', you can then read the Midnight series which ties them all together and reprises your favourite minor characters.

Was going to suggest Mike Carey. Maybe try Christopher fowler, enjoyed some of his.

I just finished The Rook by Daniel O'Malley, and it was good fun.

Simon L Green's "Nightside" series are good.
Also Rob Thurman's "Cal and Niko" series are really good too.
She writes a couple of other series' but to me they are somewhat "halfhearted" but the "Grimrose Path" are good. I didn't like the "All Seeing Eye" ones as much and never finished the second one, but you might like them.
Have you read any of the "Stephanie Plum" books? They are really good - amusing and exciting with a touch of pathos and the supernatural, and Grandma Mazur is just one of the best characters EVER
Janet Evanovich has also started a sort of "crossover" series with a couple of the characters from SP in them called the "Lizzy and Diesel" series.

Remus, thank you! I read The Good Fairies of New York years ago and I've been trying to remember the name of it ever since so I could reread it.

I'll add The Hidden Academy series by Jon Rosenberg, and The Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman.

Not urban fantasy but Urban thriller/murder - Oliver Harris' Nick Belsey tales are great.

Gormless - I love it for its sheer bonkers-ness.

SJ Fairbrother's London Bones books are well written with good characterisation - two published at the moment.

Thirding Mike Carey for a bit of originality.

Right now I'm reading Neil Gaiman's "Neverwhere".
