Charlotte's web - for 5 yr old??

DH is trying to find book to read to our DD1 who will be 5 in march. i've not read it and she has seen the adverts for the film on tv. what are your thoughts? what are the themes? is it appropriate??

she cant read yet. just started reception.

There is an animated version already, it's very good -- some of the dialogue from the book is in there verbatim. Book and the old film are perfect, I'd say, for age 5. DCs fine with the old film from age 2, really.

I read this to my two as our first chapter book a couple of years ago - I think ds was 5 and dd 4. She did think the end was sad, but not traumatic (and she is a nightmare sufferer with films). It's lovely.
