Just finished reading and I have mixed feelings. The writing and language in the book is very good, setting up the atmosphere, describing the town and the characters.

My problem was with the storyline and the 'twist' at the end. I guessed who the 'bad guy' was right at the start and as someone else has said by the time we got to the end I just found the reasoning completely implausible. I just couldn't buy in to the last couple of chapters and that was a real disappointment as with a different ending the book could have be so much better.

Really enjoyed this book. Deceptive in that it was easy to read, not a complicated plot but kept me guessing right up to the end. I didn't guess the ending so that was good! Is a book that I will happily pass on to friends with a highly recommended.

I liked the book and it was well written.
What a nightmare for the parents - can there be anything more worse than this happening to them
"I THINK NOT"

Great book, hooked from the first page, couldn't put it down! Didn't see the many twists and turns in it, coming. Would highly recommend it to anyone 🙂

Just finished my free copy, thanks!
A real page Turner. Kept me guessing til near the end when I finally got it right. Definitely recommend

I'm about halfway through this book now, and I must say I'm really enjoying it (so much so I'm spending longer in the bath so I can read 'just one more chapter...') it's well written and executed; I've read a few books recently where the dialogue flits between characters but this is the easiest one to get to grips with.

I'm properly hooked and I can't wait to see what way the story goes.

SouthWestmom · 16/09/2016 18:39

I bought a copy not a free one so I'm going to be brutally honest.

I guessed the guilty party on page one; it was so bloody obvious.
The book was badly written and none of the characters did anything remotely normal. The 'twist' was seen a mile off and the whole book was highly irritating and I'm stunned it was published.

I suspect I'm over 'psychological thriller' bandwagon books.

Thank you for allowing me to take part in this book review.
Being about same age as Frankie, I loved all the 90s references and living in the same part of the world, it was really easy to connect with the atmosphere and environment described.
The book was definitely a page turner - I absolutely wanted to keep reading to find out who dunnit!
There were a few editorial issues in my opinion, too many over-used words ('snaked' being one!) and a couple of discrepancies but this didn't detract from the story and the book overall, it was an enjoyable read.
Slight Spoiler Alert
I didn't predict the denouement, and I found it slightly jarring that the 1st person voice used for one of the protagonists, completely ignored the guilt of the character. This left me somewhat bemused at the end. Would the guilty party really talk to the victim fondly all the way through, as if they had nothing to do with their demise, and show no remorse at the end of the day? This felt almost like a twist for the sake of it to me, but still, I was pulled along by the story and glad to have read it.

I really enjoyed reading this. It was an easy read and one that keeps you guessing. I was sure I'd cracked it by the middle of the book, but I was so wrong!
The seaside town was described perfectly, the atmosphere looming over the whole book and for me, it set the mood.
A really good read, I will be adding all the other books by this author to my reading list!

clorindaClutterbuck1 · 26/09/2016 18:50

Excellent read, would recommend.

Just finished 'Local Girl Missing' and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would definitely recommend (in fact my mum and sister both want to read it now!) thanks again Mumsnet

bisopharm · 27/09/2016 03:58

This was an interesting book to read although it did take me a few days as I could only read few pages at a time.
This my first Claire Douglas book and I did find it a bit dull in the beginning but I was determined to carry on and see the unfolding story.
It got exciting as I didn't expect ' Lady Frankie' to be behind Sophie's death. I love the way the author cleverly wove the storyline.
I will be looking out for her other books

Toniglendenning1 · 27/09/2016 08:08

whatwoulddexterdo · 29/09/2016 21:13

Thanks for my copy. Sorry for late review but I have been unwell and only just finished this. I really enjoyed this book. It was written in two different time lines. There was plenty of lies and intrigue along the way concerning a missing teenager.
The twist when it comes is quite unexpected and I never guessed it.
I would recommend this to fans of psychological thrillers.
If you haven't already then try her other novel, sisters is also very good.
Thank you again for the opportunity to review this book.

shelaghh · 11/10/2016 16:28

Enjoyed reading this book ,it is a pyscholigal /mystery, full of twists and turns.
How would we cope if one of our loved ones went missing and a body was found.
"It would be our worst nightmare"

An excellent book.

agnapoop · 14/12/2016 21:05
