SorchaMumsnet · 10/10/2016 16:27

Hi folks - so glad to hear that the books have finally found you! Phew!

In case you missed the email explaining this, it turns out that the problem was with the warehouse and the books being out of stock (always a good sign!) We have a message from Cornerstone:

"We’d like to take this opportunity to apologise for the delay in getting this book to you. Thank you for your extreme patience and we do hope that you enjoy reading it."

To allow you plenty of time to read the book, we've extended the feedback deadline. Post your thoughts on I Found You by Monday 7 November to be entered into the prize draw for £100 Love2Shop voucher!

Thank you so much mums net for I found you by Lisa Jewell. Wow loving every page. A kind hearted woman takes in a man who is sitting on the beach outside her house. Bless him, he doesn't know his name or what he is doing on the beach. Heartbreakingly more he doesn't know where he lives. Alice helps the man to remember who is. What a very kind lady.

Theimpossiblegirl · 11/10/2016 18:40

Thanks Sorcha- I will read this over half term between the many taxi runs my teens will require me to do.

Pigeonpea · 11/10/2016 22:59

Wow!
I've never read Lisa Jewel before and I throughly enjoyed her book - Id' definitely recommend and would look to buy her books in the future.
I read this book in 3 nights.
Great story line, believable and full of energy. Written at a good pace. The characters lacked a degree of depth, however, this did not take away from the story line.
I had two niggles - within the first chapter, the lead female character had made spaghetti bolognese for tea and then was ordering pizza for tea?!
The train time was written as an expression 'oh', as opposed to o'
Well worth the wait!

Unsurechicken · 11/10/2016 23:04

If anyone finishes theirs and doesnt want it.. id love it! I really like the author and could do with a pick me up at the moment.

FernieB · 13/10/2016 20:04

Well it finally arrived and fortunately was worth the wait. I read this very quickly over two days. Having two threads to the story kept it pacey and built the suspense nicely. I agree with a previous poster that the characters seemed a little two dimensional but this didn't detract from the intrigue. The ending felt a bit flat. It seemed as though it was building up to something more explosive - a confrontation of some kind - but this didn't materialise which was disappointing. Nonetheless a gripping read.

nerysw · 16/10/2016 09:07

Got it. Read it. Loved it. It may have taken a while to get to me but it was worth the wait as I really enjoyed this book. It's a proper page turner and not the soppy boy-meets-girl that the title and cover suggest. The story is great and unfolds in at a page-turningly good pace. The characters are well written and pleasingly flawed. Well worth reading.

victria · 16/10/2016 19:03

Despite saying I wouldn't have time to read this by the original deadline, amazingly I have finished in advance! This is testament to the gripping storyline and easy to read format with short chapters. I wouldn't call it great literature but it's certainly the sort of thing I enjoy reading as relaxation and was far more interesting than I thought it would be based on the cover. I really enjoyed the entwined storylines and guessing (correctly!) at who was who from the 1993 segment in present day, and what had happened to cause them to be connected in this story. I enjoyed the ending as it explained things and it wasn't the sort of novel where being left with questions would have been satisfying. Some of the characterisation was a bit thin but otherwise it might have got in the way of a gripping, entertaining story that left me wondering what would happen next. The characterisation was sufficient to make me care about the characters and that's all that was needed. I would recommend this to others. I would say though that I'm disappointed in Lisa Jewell's proof reader who let her down in several places. Despite that I will be looking forward to reading more from Lisa Jewell in the future.

rachnicuk · 16/10/2016 21:19

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Read it in 3 days, couldn't put it down. I loved the way the story came together at the end and the happy note it finished on. Very well written, gripping storyline flicking from the past to the future. Warmed to certain characters, Alice in particular. Will definitely follow Lisa Jewel in future.

lemonsmum · 18/10/2016 20:03

Took me just over a week to read this book not something I would usually pick so was happy to try something different and I loved it. Kept me gripped and guessing trying to work out who was who the whole way through. Iv already recommended to a friend and will definitely buy Lisa Jewel in the future.

TheImpossibleGirl · 18/10/2016 20:35

I started this today on the train and didn't want my journey to end.

It's beautifully written and utterly gripping. I am constantly trying to guess what is going on and make links between the different viewpoints, but have no idea where this story is going. All I know is I can't wait to find out!

I'll post a review when I finish, but so far, so good.

Perfectlypurple · 19/10/2016 16:23

Started reading this book last night, wasn't sure about it. Went back to it today and I have finished it already. I really enjoyed it. I won't say too much as don't want to spoil it for anyone else who hasn't read it yet. But it was a thoroughly enjoyable book. I liked the characters, and wanted to find out more, which is why I kept reading all day.

floorflock · 20/10/2016 09:54

Thanks Mumsnet for the free copy of this book.

Alice the Artist lives with her three children and three dogs. She watches a man sitting on the beach who simply doesn’t move. After some time and plenty of rain she goes out to offer him a coat. He doesn’t have a name, doesn’t know where he came from or where he is going to, where he lives, doesn’t know anything really. After a chat Alice offers to let him stay in her chaotic house overnight. She doesn’t realise that this is the start of her future.

This is an intricate tale of missing people interspersed with the life of a family in the same town many years ago and another lady looking for her new husband who is also missing. There was sufficient intrigue to keep me not knowing for sure who ‘Frank’ turned out to be until the end. I kept thinking it could be him but then the plot twisted and made me wonder once more – perhaps not.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and didn’t want to put it down. As someone who reads in the bath I can say that if you read this book you will get cold and you will get wrinkles! This is also the first book for a long time that made me cry at the end. I have great admiration for writers especially when they can evoke such emotions in me. What a story.

CopperPan · 21/10/2016 20:14

This is the sort of book that is a great holiday read, it can be read quite quickly and keep you gripped from the opening line. It is dark and gritty at times with an edge of mystery and drama, with some intriguing plot twists. The characters felt very real and the writing was very well paced, with layers of narrative weaving through the book which keeps the story interesting.

TheImpossibleGirl · 22/10/2016 11:53

Totally agree with the darker elements, one part of the story is making me feel really uneasy, it's an excellent book but not the light chick-lit I had anticipated. I'm just over halfway and it is very good.

lesley37 · 23/10/2016 09:40

Worth the wait, a great read , keep you guessing. Thanks for my free copy.

TheImpossibleGirl · 23/10/2016 11:24

I have just finished. Wow. It was so much better than I had anticipated. I was expecting a chick-lit, light bit of reading, a break from my current diet of thrillers.

But no, it was a story of many layers, of interesting, well developed characters, each with their own story, each connected in some way. It really did have me gripped and was a bit of a roller-coaster in parts- tense, gritty, amusing, sad, hopeful, so many aspects to a very well written book.

Thank you so much for the free copy.

My only negative is that the book was so physically big, making it hard to read lying on my side in bed or carry in my handbag. But a free book is a free book, so I won't complain.
