Have just read "Killing Me Softly" by Nicci French but also loved Anna Karenina. Can anyone recommend anything to indulge my little fantasies please?!

Just finished Dr. Zvivargo (excuse spelling please). Depressing as hell but excellent. The first part a bit of a slog but once they are on the train to siberia, it moves along. Not uplifting but if you want doomed love...it's your book!

Bink, it is excellent, isn't it? DH was utterly hooked.

SickJealousandWorried · 15/01/2007 21:44

You could always read my thread in chat under "private detective wanted".....

NotAnOtter · 15/01/2007 22:49

bink - you have convinced me!

How about Damage by Josephine Hart? Remember the film with Jeremy Irons?

Dinosaur · 16/01/2007 10:49

I have read the book but not seen the film.

JackieNo · 16/01/2007 10:52

It's a load of tosh, really. Looks good, but there's loads of quite embarrassing sex, with Jeremy Irons (iyswim).

Cappuccino · 16/01/2007 10:53

nothing natural by Jenny Diski

Have ordered a couple of these from Amazon - thanks for all the suggestions!!

Notes on a Scandal is odd, disturbing (on many levels; not just the obvious - the teacher shagging a pupil aspect) and completely unputdownably. I read it on holiday in one night.

Sobernow is right, Therese Raquin is a corker but it was by Emile Zola. If you liked Anna K you will LOVE this one.

Enduring Love, Ian McEwan is about obsessive love and all

boogiewoogie · 18/01/2007 15:38

les liaisons dangereuses.
I hope I've spelt it correctly!

TeeCee · 18/01/2007 15:40

Whats that book they made into a film where the dad is sleeping with his son's wife?
Think the man was played by Jeremy Irons and the woman's character name was Anna.

JackieNo · 18/01/2007 15:52

That was Damage - the one I mentioned, TeeCee. Where Jeremy Irons is a politician having an affair with his son's fiancee.

TeeCee · 18/01/2007 16:04

Sorry Jackie, I skimmed the thread to see if it had been mentioned but still missed your post, sorry.

JackieNo · 18/01/2007 16:09

No worries.

She Came to Stay - Simone de Beauvoir
She Did Not Leave - Fay Weldon

Loved the first, just started the second. Interested to know what you think.

decafskinnylatte · 18/01/2007 16:35

Oops. That should have been "She MAY Not Leave"
