This was a very addictive book. After I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I found the central characters both believable and intriguing. I am a new comer to detective novels and although this story has a disappearance case, there were enough peripheral dramas to ease me in gently. I thoroughly recommend this book.

I thought this would take me ages to read, however, as a consequence of not being able to put it down, I finished it within three days. It is a real page turner. Great for a summer holiday read.

The plot is somewhat contrived at points, however, it is still an enjoyable read. There are twists and turns, however, the ending was not completely unexpected.

Really enjoying this book now as the characters are hooking me in. I think the juxtaposition of the two time period chapters flows well and some authors struggle with cohesion when using this technique. Think my slow start with getting in to the story was more linked to a eye infection than anything to do with the novel! Would definitely recommend this to friends.

I enjoyed reading this book, thought it was well written and had some interesting plot developments. It did take a little time to get into it, due to the jumping back and forth in time but overall a nice summer read.

Thanks MN for picking me to receive a free copy.

Finally got round to starting The Lake House and I must say I'm really enjoying it, already I'm hooked and can't wait to see how the story pans out. So far I'm managing to keep up with the flitting between past and present. My initial thought on starting the book was that it reminded me somewhat of Daphne du Maurier, though i don't know if that is due to the fact that it is set in Cornwall or that there is some hidden secret waiting to be discovered!

Thank you for my free copy of the Lake House. I haven't finished it yet but it won't be long - I am really loving it! I find her writing very immersive. It's easy to read yet still very well written. Beautiful descriptions and wonderful sense of time and place. Captivating mystery and interesting characters. I've read several of her other novels but not all and this is as good as the previous ones if not better. As I say, I haven't finished so can't give a complete review but so far o would definitely recommend. Now ... Must get back to it!

I really enjoyed it as well, though there were places where it felt a little too long. I can deal with a reasonable amount of chopping and changing with timelines/places, but occasionally it seems too much/just done for suspense reasons, and I find it hard to get back into the other timeline. I find some coincidences a bit unlikely, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Just finished this book this morning. Absolutely brilliant. Great plot with lots to think about. Certainly kept me guessing. Really well written and a few surprises. Moved me to tears at one point. Highly recommended.

Love this book. Borrowed it from the library

At first I did think it was similar to her other book about the Australian connection and the little girl losing her mother but this is very different and I am really enjoying it.

Really enjoyed this book. It was a bit confusing with the characters going back and forth but once in the rhythm of it, a gripping and enjoyable yet easy read.

Would recommend this

Many thanks to Mumsnet / Pan for a copy of this book. I still have a bit of a way to go to finish. But a really good story in the making.
I absolutely love mystery/detective stories and 'who-done-it's'. And this book contains a intriguing tale with a difference - from the beautifully presented cover, the well-fleshed out characters and setting, to the epic generation-spanning mystery.
I’m really curious to see how the story pans out. Based on what I've read so far, I would definitely recommend this book.

Another excellent story from Kate Morton. Such intriguing story lines in her books. The description of the Lake House and the gardens really draws you into the story. An enthralling suspense drawing you into a multi-generational, layered, unsolved 70-year-old mystery of intrigue - combining past with present, with vivid descriptions and settings.

kidsandcamping · 07/07/2016 16:35

So I got my book a little while back and started it just a couple of nights ago. Already it's gripping me and I'm hoping the rest of the book is as good as the beginning.
If it is, I'll certainly be reading more of her books.
I can't read everyone's comments for fear of finding out something!

Iwantacampervan · 20/08/2016 18:39

I have only just read this on holiday - an easy read with interesting twists. However, I would have liked the ending to be expanded as I felt that it was a little rushed.
