I know this has probably been done before but dd is about to turn 2. She has loads of books but I'd like to get her 1 or more for her birthday (amongst other things) but need inspiration.

Thanks (might not be back to check this thread till later but I will !)

My DTS (age 2yo 10 months) received "We're going on a bear hunt" at the weekend as a belated Christmas present from relatives and since then, I must have read it to them about 40 times! Arrrrghhhhhh! Tonight for example, before they went to bed, they insisted that I read it to them six times. Yesterday, I read it to them eight times. Then DH read it to them but he refused to do so after the second time. They love that book and now ignore the previous favourites.

When will it end? Somebody help me - please!!!!!!!!

PS DH was working late tonight so was unable to rescue me.

IamBlossom · 17/01/2007 11:50

for some unearthly reason my 2 year old DS is insisting on being "read" his digger book which is 5 wooden pages of yellow and red diggers with touchy feely bits on the pages, and is designed for much younger children. he loves it! can't persuade him to read any of the other lovely books he got for Christmas or that are gathering dust on his shelves and I can't wait to read them! Sigh. I think he now just associates the digger book with Nunights. Toddlers are bonkers.

DrDaddy · 17/01/2007 12:42

DS1's current fave is 'The Smartest Giant in Town' (by same authors as Gruffalo, Monkey Puzzle etc.) partly because I've read it SO many times I've now adopted regional accents for all the main characters and the Giant is full-on Glaswegian...

clairemow · 17/01/2007 12:44

speedymama, DS loves the bear hunt book as well, and we often have repeated readings of things... We're actually going to the theatre next Tuesday morning to see it on stage! Bet they won't do it 8 times!!!

Lullabyloo · 17/01/2007 22:07

PMSL

Er, DS's fave book is in Welsh (which means I can't read it) but they all adored having link{http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dazzling-Diggers-Amazing-Machines-Mitton/dp/0753403501/sr=8-12/qid=1169073310/ref=pd_ka_12/202-2865766-1931861?ie=UTF8&s=books\this range} read to them they rhyme wonderfully and are a real joy. We won them in a comp, but would buy them again like a shot!

calmontheoutside · 18/01/2007 14:39

Top 10 in no order for DD ( 2 years )and me (important for me to like them too!!!) -
*Any Katie Morag - for older children, but I enjoy reading them and she LOVES the illustrations and talking about what's happening and who is who. Some evenings she's in the mood to listen to the whole text, others a Mummy version of the original.
*We're going on a Bear Hunt - loves to do the actions.
*100 Nursery Rhymes
*Any Mog, but I haven't dared do the one with the wings... (for my sake)
*Each Peach Pear Plum
*Elmer still...
*Spot still...
*I Want my Potty
*Any Linley Dodd, Hairy Maclary (Each dog name has a different 'voice')
*Hungry Caterpillar

*Miffy (Number 11 I know)(even though it's the angel that sorts it all out - Granny likes this one because Daddy goes to work and Mummy does the shopping, the opposite happens here but we can talk about that later...)

RosaLuxembourg · 18/01/2007 23:57

Calmontheoutside - the Mog with wings - I cry EVERY time I read it - so embarrassing!
