It is a dark time in a galaxy far, far away…

When Milo and Lina Graf's parents are abducted by agents of the evil Empire, the children must undertake a perilous journey across the unknown reaches of Wild Space to rescue them – and to discover hope for the future.

In this first full-length adventure, Milo and Lina look for allies on an ancient frontier world – but the cruel Imperial officer Captain Korda has prepared a trap…

Egmont have asked us to find 50 Mumsnetters to read The Snare and tell us what they think about it (and what their children think about it!) on this discussion thread. Go to the giveaway page to find out more and apply for a free copy.

You don't have to win a free copy to take part in the discussion. Anyone who has read The Snare can post their feedback here, and all who post before 18th April will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 Love2Shop voucher.

Don't worry if you haven't finished reading by then. Feel free to drop in at whatever point you've got up to and give your fellow readers your first impressions about the story, characters, writing style.

This is such a thrilling read. My son and I read most of it in one go and we have already bought the next one in the series. We highly recommend this. Thanks!

My son thoroughly enjoyed this book - as will any Star Wars fan!

I was picked by MNHQ to review this book which I received for free. This review is in my own words and reflects my true opinion. I personally enjoyed the read and felt boys or girls. Clearly at just turned 6 grandson struggled with reading parts of it but wanted it read to him in one go; book holding his interest for that long is good. I can see this Star wars being reread a few times

cathisherwood · 10/04/2016 20:47

grandson has now read the book and described it as 'good' - for someone who never bothers to finish a book if it becomes even slightly dull I'd say that was a result!

We were sent a copy of the book, and my son said it looked interesting, so that is a good start for a boy! My son liked the characters and the addition to the star wars reference to keep him interested. I think this book is a good length and has a nice addition of pictures to keep the reader interested. Think it would be a great series of books. Thanks

Great book! Having read the World Book Day starter, we were thrilled to receive a copy of this book to continue the story. Both my DS (5 and 7) are massive Star Wars fans and this is pitched at just the right level. We are reading it together and are part way through, although DS 7 could/would read it on his own. It is hard to get DS 7 to read fiction, so a big thumbs up from us.

"I had read " The Escape" having bought it with my World Book Day token and wanted to find out more. I liked "The Snare" because it was about children as Star Wars is mostly about quite grown up people. My favourite part was when the alien tricked Milo that he should buy bug spray to protect himself but actually it attracted bugs. I think the Wild Space series is an awesome new set of books for me to read and really want to read the next book to find out what happens next to Milo & Lina." Abigail (age 9)

Thanks for our copy. My daughter is in love with Star Wars so I thought she'd really enjoy it but sadly after the first chapter she lost interest. I think it may just be that she is only interested in the movie characters. I have had a look at the book and it looks fantastic. I run her school library so I am going to add it to our collection there to see what the other kids think as they are all into the Star Wars theme.

My son has just finished this book and described it as a great original story, adrenalin fuelled and exciting. He is already hooked and we will be buying the next in the series.

I know this book is meant for kids but I really enjoyed it. When it arrived I instantly knew that my daughter would not be the right age for it (she is only 4) and read it myself. I had still read chapters to her as she is a massive star wars fan (old and new) and she enjoyed it being read to her. I think it definitely had the authentic star wars 'feel' and I am going to get the rest of the collection for when my daughter is a little bit older. (or just for myself :P)

Very late to say thanks for the book and to post a little review at last. DS1 is 6.5 so perhaps a little young for the target market but very much enjoyed the first Book Day offering, and I have been reading The Snare to him over bedtimes for the past week. The characters are strong and real and funny and the action is very true to the Star Wars world and you can't ask for more than that. I expect we will continue with the series to see what it holds!

cavylover · 02/05/2016 16:03

Many thanks for this book which I passed on to my nephew who is a big fan of the genre and read the book very quickly as he enjoyed it so much

techywife · 04/05/2016 13:00

I was extremely lucky to win a copy of this on my son's behalf. As a slightly reluctant reader of 8 years old, he was excited to get a book related to something he is interested in (or, more accurately, is obsessed by!) as was his Dad as they thoroughly enjoyed reading it together! His, albeit brief, review was "it was awesome!" - but coming from him this really is a major thumbs up as he loses interest fairly quickly in some books and still sees reading as a bit of a chore at times. It was a good, fun story which I'm sure he will revisit and enjoy again. Thank you for choosing us, and apologies for the late post.

Finally got around to reading this book with the kids and posting a review on our blog. Here's a copy:

The Snare by Cavan Scott, is the first in a series called Adventures in Wild Space a Star Wars spin off aimed at children 5-8 years old. We were sent a copy by Mumsnet to review. As with all my reviews, this is impartial and from the perspective of a mum with autistic and neuro-typical kids

STAR WARS Adventures in wild space: The Snare is the story of Milo and Lina Graf who are on the run from Imperial Captain Korda, the man responsible for the imprisonment of their parents. The children head towards a planet looking for help in finding their parents and are tracked down by the villain. Star Wars fans will enjoy the story that is full of classic items; droids, strange looking aliens, planets, storm troopers, tie fighters and even ...Darth Vader.

The 160 pages are broken into 12 chapters, making them a good length for the suggested age range (5-8). The font size is great for free readers of this age and most chapters have two black and white pictures that support the story well.

We read the book with Anthony, our eight year old son, who has high functioning autism and our three year old daughter (aspiring genius). Books are a great way for Anthony is access his imagination. It gives him a framework to work with. Although the plot was too complicated for Jane to follow, Anthony managed to keep up and the where dialogue or scenes lost his focus the pictures supported his understanding. The pictures of the different aliens sparked his interest and the fact that the main characters are kids probably helped him connect more with the story. Both Anthony and Jane enjoyed parts of the story that typically appeal to kids - the stinky planet where everything smelled bad was particularly popular and made us all laugh. It was also pretty ease to summarise pages so we could reach the end of a chapter if Anthony was a bit too tired. Perhaps a few more pictures could have held his attention a bit longer as he's a very visual learner. I suspect we was waiting for some character to get their comeuppance. Overall, they enjoyed the book.

The next book in the series is STAR WARS Adventures in Wild Space: The Nest. As this is only the second in a series of several books, I suspect Anthony may have to wait a bit longer to see if everyone gets the fate they deserve.
