Brick Lane, by Monica Ali did that for me. It went on long after I lost interest but I thought the beginning really original, well written and interesting.

The Pact, by Jodi Picoult. I hate it when that happens.

"Cell" by Stephen King. I normally love King but this seemed like a copy of "The Stand" and then fizzled out at the end without really telling us what happened to the characters.

Just finished "Lisey's Story" though and am pleased to say that he's back on form!

I am Charlotte Simmons. deeply disappointing end that made me realise that Tom Wolfe really is misanthropic, when I like giving people the benefit of the doubt

Do you mean you wanted the story to continue, once Daddy was home again? (Hope I haven't spoiled it for any one .)

"Sorry I missed your last birthdays, I was in the slammer. Now here's sixpence, go to the pictures while Mummy and Daddy, um, go over the household accounts together." said Daddy.

"I hate Charllie Chaplin" grumbled Peter.
"I can't read the subtitles quick enough" said Phyllis.

Bobby's thoughts turned to the hound in the red jersey ....

Jodi Picoult wrote the pack. I agree it was a duff ending.

Also White Teeth, great book but last 100 pages were crappy.

My first reaction was OMG when does she have time to read books? Then I saw the t in Steven.

Have not tried Jodi Picoult at all. Is she ever any good?

Any Jodie Picault. Enjoyed the first one, then realised only too soon with the second one that they're written to a real formula. Can't remember - think it might have been The Pact - but it had a real feel of 'can't be bothered to really write the last few chapters properly'
