Reading a self-published book...

Was at a church fair, browsing the second hand book stall and got chatting to this elderly bloke. He saw my handful of books and asked if I'd be interested in his book. "Fiction" based on fact of his youth in our area. Thought it looked interesting so bought it for ?1.20.
Started reading it a couple of nights ago, and it is interesting.
But it is diabolically edited. The spelling, grammar, the lot, totally awful. Speech marks half missing, terrible spelling mistakes (all your not you're, there not their etc). It is so hard to read but I'm persevering as it is interesting.
Surely if you're going to get a book published, you check your spelling and grammar first. Don't you?

Right who'll be the first to spot an error in here as I've been so pedantic

I think I might! I really didn't want to sound like I was slagging him off as I too think well done for getting it written.

we have a local historian round here, his stories are very interesting and the local paper gives him a page each week, maybe the local rag would be interested too!
