Haven't read the book but have followed DB's career since long before he became well-known. He's always been very open about his 'methods' and revealed how he does things, but he really is very skilled at it and even when you know the 'tricks' it takes years of practice to get to the level DB works at.

Is the book readable? Interesting? Engaging? Does he reveal much? I didn't realise he'd published one!

NLP? Saw his live act last year - found the near suffocation bit horrible watch, very disturbing. But do thik he's fab. Loved the Russian roulette programme

I'd like to read his book - I like Derren. I like his way of debunking things.

But I've not read it. What is NLP?

He is quite refreshing compared with David Blane who really should disapear up his own arse and see how long he can saty there .

Tinker · 02/01/2007 00:12

That would be some trick

Was just reading review of DB prgramme where it mentioned NLP...

I've read it - found it interesting and a bit too deep in equal parts.

Been to the show as well, I think he's fab, fascinating and strangely sexy... Not into the stuffed owls etc in his living room tho so he'd have to come back to mine if the opportunity arose!

Yes - am reading this at the moment and finding it v. interesting.

I don't think it's a problem that he's 'giving away his secrets' - that has always been part of what he does - exploding the myth that there is anything 'magical' about what he does (as opposed to very 'clever').
I agree with others - I find him very fascinating and clever (although not sexy ) . What is find interesting is the idea that he presents in his book of having been a bit of a 'misfit' in his youth - although I can somehow believe it? Also I went to Bristol Uni (as did he) and I can imagine the sort of reception he's get from some of the types there!

Have you read the e-mails he's published at the end of the book - some of them are bizarre - but a couple of them are all about telling him to 'grow up' and 'stop trying to prove yourself'. I think some people genuinely feel threatened by his ability?

I've also seen him live. We watched the the TV show of his live performance too the other night, and it's interesting to see how much more you notice when you see it for the second time?

Hi Pruni
No - I haven't read it all yet, but I did read the bit about supposed mediums and all the general ways in which they can make a person feel they're talking to them - it made me laugh as I read it, because it all seems so, well, OBVIOUS!

What's the stuff about his goatee beard? In the cover it says the book will explain why he ahs it, but I haven't seen anything yet?

Also I love the way he keeps the reader on his/her toes with all the little asides and 'jokes' in the text!

I 'm greatly enjoying it. ANd his writing style

Has anyone tried the loci memory system of putting images in your house? It words a treat.
