Can anyone recommend a good book about very early American history?

I've just seen the Revenant. Oh my god, it was good, I'm now really interested in that period of American history.

Does anyone know of a good book? I don't mind if it's fiction or factual.

Thanks.

Maybe have a look at the following...

The Mapmaker's Children by Sarah McCoy

Crossing Purgatory by Gary Schanbacher

East of Eden by John Steinbeck

I wouldn't say the 19th century was very early American history! I second East of Eden though, I loved reading it.

What's in the 19th century? trip's books? I don't mind, I'll give them a look, thank you!

It's the 16/1700s I think I'm interested in. What happened right at the beginning.

not a book but if you get a chance to catch up with the series John Adams, do it - it's great, especially the first couple of episodes.

Ok great, DH already has that actually so I'll watch it!

Will get East of Eden too. Thanks :)
