janeite · 30/12/2006 16:40

The new Stephen King one; a fashion book; a rhyming dictionary to encourage me to get writing poetry again and a veggie cookbook.

fullmoonfiend · 30/12/2006 16:54

Wintersmith - Terry Pratchett (It's lovely though I read it in 24 hours
Food for Free - Richard Mabey (updated version from the 70s, very glossy but not as good, somehow as the original...)
the IQ Book of Genral Ignorance (everything I thought i knew is wrong!)
End in Tears - Ruth Rendell - not one of her best.

Need something new to read NOW

cheeryface · 30/12/2006 16:59

turquoise · 30/12/2006 17:01

Rapture, The World's Wife, and Feminine Gospels by Carol Ann Duffy - which I'd asked for.
Love and Louis XIV by Antonia Fraser which was a complete surprise, but lovely.
Didn't get the Rupert Everett one which I'd rather fancied, but will now get in the sales!

christie1 · 31/12/2006 20:48

I got ian rankins latest rebus book. I love, love love them. I almost hate to start it because then it will end.

wethreekingsofORINOCOare · 31/12/2006 21:16

I got Cross - James Patterson - it's rubbish (but then again I think his books have been going steadily downhill recently)

I also got a couple of Jeffrey Deavers HonorMAGIpoeia

singersgirl · 02/01/2007 20:49

"The Faber Book of Love Poetry" from the DSs because "you like poetry and we love you" and "The Writer's Yearbook" from DH, though that doesn't really count.

Am a bit disappointed in lack of proper books, and have already read DH's "An Inconvenient Truth". Will be going to the library tomorrow.

Troutpout · 02/01/2007 20:59

The Known World by Edward P. Jones - really interesting so far but takes a bit of concentration to following all the interlinked lives.

I didn't get any of the books on my list

admylin · 14/01/2007 19:34

I got 3 books, couldn't carry anymore back to Germany as kids got books too but they were all brilliant - only trouble is I've read them all now and it isn't even half way through January. Withdrawl symptoms, no books left! Kite runner made me cry at some parts of it.

The red tent - Anita Diamant
Year of Wonders - Geraldine Brooks
The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini
