Crime thriller a bit like the TV series Castle - good story, funny, minimal gore

I've been watching the early episodes of Castle with the kids and been having a lot of fun. It reminded me how much I used to like reading detective stories, but I really don't like them to be too gruesome.

Would love a recommendation for suitable reading material if anyone has any?

I love Rizzoli, in fact it's a family favourite on TV in our house, very funny and light. As Movember says, the books are very different. Dark and humourless.
I've read the Ruth Galloway series they are on a pile for the charity shop. Ok but a little slow.
I like the sound of the Margaret Maron books.
