just as title...looking for something laugh out loud funny or I love a good rags to riches to tale. I don't fancy any kind of "bittersweet" stuff and I'd particularly like something that isn't about relationships etc. Any ideas? Thanks.

My Family & Other Animals - Gerald Durrell.

Lovely & very funny about him as a child in Corfu with his barmy family in the 1930's. Very, very funny & some lovely chapters about his love of the natural world & discovering it as a child.

Lost Continent by Bill Bryson.

One of his earliest & funniest books about going back to the USA & driving all over it.

Neither are fiction - hope that doesn't matter.

The not so secret emails of Coco Pinchard
Light read but very funny

I'd second Bill Bryson.

Cold Comfort Farm is also very funny.

David Lodge's novels from the 70s, particularly Changing Places and How far can you go? are great.

Funny Girl by Nick Hornby is a lovely read - just very easy and enjoyable and lightly humorous. But there is a bit of a bittersweet element at the end.

Anything by Laurie Colwin - New Yorker, died young in the 90s, writes witty, funny, tough-minded, latter-day Jane Austen-y novels about privileged Manhattanites' love relationships. They manage to be light-hearted and clever while also being brilliantly well-written.
