Downloaded on day of release as I like the two main characters and wanted to find out if Robin finally ditches the dreadful Matthew.
I did enjoy it - at least the author didn't go on too much about Cormoron's leg this time and I did find it easier to follow than the Silkworm.
A bit far fetched that Strike has turned out as well as he has really - with his background its a wonder he didn't end up behind bars himself.
I do enjoy her books though - I hope there is a book four soon. What did others think? ( read a few reviews and mostly positive)

Oh, Jasper, you give me hope.

Haven't read the posts so that I can avoid any spoilers, but this is waiting for me at the library and I'm wondering if there's any mention in this book of the killer in The Silkworm? I haven't read that one yet but did read The Cuckoo's Calling.

Iirc I think there is a brief mention of the Silkworm case. But this one is so much better than Silkworm :)

gingercat12 · 28/01/2016 13:09

I think the only reference is in relation to the famous PI who sold the case of the dead celebrity and the literary murders or something like that.

Thanks - will collect it next week and report back after reading Smile

I'd skip Silkworm tbh - it was dreadful. This one was better, although not as good as 'Cuckoo'.

SPOILER ALERT*
I just finished the book and something doesn't make sense. When Robin fell and Donnie of offered her help, he must have recognised her but the sections about the killer doesn't show that the killer knew they are watching him and if he didn't know why didn't he question why Robin was outside his flat??

southeastdweller · 05/06/2016 11:43

And how did Strike afford all that travel cost?

SPOILER ALERT

Why didn't he recognise Laing when he saw him as 'Ray'? It'd only been a ten year gap since they last saw each other.

I wasn't keen on this book at all, it was too long-winded and too many plot holes.
