The new Lee Child - anyone read it? Cocolepew?!?!

Just finished it. Won't give away any spoilers but what did anyone else think?

I was a bit bored. Dragged on far to long.

I normally really enjoy them.

That's interesting Simon - I usually read his books in a day or two but this one took me 2 weeks.

Interesting concept but seemed rushed at the end I think.

Yes. Nothing happened, nothing happened, nothing happened. Then everything happened in the last chapter and by then I'd given up caring.

As Simon said, the book is Make Me. Cocolepew is a MNer who shares my love of Lee Child's books - we've had many discussions in the past.

His early books were ace, but the last couple have really gone off the boil which is a shame

I see! Yes, I agree. Used to love Jack Reacher books but the last few have been meh. Like Lee Child has run out of ideas. Sloppy, not tight enough writing, very samey. Hey ho!

oh no, I've found that but hoped it might be different this time . The worst one I read ended with a really lame finish where they didn't tell the police.

I was expecting the brain injury to be rather more relevant. It got built up and then...nothing. It also reminded me a LOT of the one with the alcoholic doctor with all the little murdered girls.
I thought the central idea of does it matter how you die if you want to die was interesting, just not explored at all. Felt a bit like he came up with the concept and then just went

Die-hard Jack fan here but couldn't get past page 80 of 'Personal'. I was really upset but found it repetitive and dull. So based on this thread will probably not even attempt Make Me. End of an era

I enjoyed Make Me more than Personal, I read it in only a day or so. But, looking back at it, I'm not sure anything really happened. Then horrible denouement and off we go.

The brain injury I suspect may account for his behaviour right at the end of the book, Penguin (trying to avoid giving away a spoiler) and be picked up again next book.

I do wish Lee Child would bring back some of the old gang. It's always better when Neagley is around, for example.

I have previously loved the Reacher books, but the last two have not been up to the usual standard. I thought Make Me was very odd, like he wrote it, realised at the end that he didn't have a proper plot, and had to think of something in a hurry.

I'd like him to pick up with Jodie Garber again. Maybe a jaunt round Canada together then she waves goodbye to him at the bus station and returns to domesticity.

I thought it was much better than the last couple. I wonder whether the brain injury might be a continuing storyline through the next book perhaps?

I have just finished it and really enjoyed it. They're hardly works of great literature but enjoyable all the same. Liked the fact that SPOILER the love interest didn't die at the end.

Read it too and felt it was a bit blah compared to others. Agree that Neagley and some of the past characters could come back and provide a bit of interest!

I think he's lost his Mojo too. It's a shame. Anyone else here read John Sandford's 'Prey' series? I love those.
