Have been trying to read this for the past month to no avail. This is the first book I've come across that I've found totally impossible.

Opinions welcome.

I remember enjoying this one. I have found several of his books difficult to get into (Early Music, The House of Dr Dee), but I am more persistent than most.

It is not so good that it is unmissable - why not move on to something you like better?

Ooh yes, it's fab, I really liked it. I got quite confused in the end about what was real and what was fiction. Very creepy and convincing. Got stuck with others of his, though - House of Dr Dee and also the Oscar Wilde one?

Read it, quite liked it, specially like wandering around bits of London with Hawksmoor churches now.
But as ClerkKent says, not unmissable - why not give up and read something you like better?

Well... I had a month to try and get it read, as it came from my book club/group. Everyone will be discussing it this coming Wednesday and I won't have a clue.

We get our new book on Wednesday too, so I'm hoping for something a little easier.

I've read it too. I agree it is difficult to get into but worth it if you persevere.

dh and I both read it, both struggled but persisted, both thought it wasn't worth it. You are allowed to give up if you like

Went to book club tonight (just returned). Out of 15 of us, only 2 people had read it all. They both thought it very dark and gloomy and one even said she wished she hadn't read it because she found it so disturbing.

We have got something better to read this month... The Future Homemakers of America... a comedy.
