I need a reading list which is full of funny as I need a good laugh right now. What is the funniest laugh out loud book you have read. I remember cracking up on an airplane reading " I don't know how she does it" but maybe I was just tired. Any suggestions?

Oh I love McCarthy's Bar too, thank you for reminding me to read it again. Bring on the Empty Horses makes me laugh out loud too - by David Niven. Round Ireland With a Fridge by Tony Hawks is another favourite.

The red dwarf novels are hilarious. If you liked the show, you'll love them. And i defy you not to read in the appropriate characters accent.

The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennet: the Queen suddenly gets into books. Short and totally hilarious.

Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovitch; especially the bits with the grandmother & the funerals.

Lumela, I came on to suggest the Alan B, it made me snort on the tube.

SouthernComforts · 10/08/2015 22:07

I came on to say Bill Bryson, they beat me to it. He is hilarious.

ScrumpyBetty · 10/08/2015 22:09

Tim Moore is a travel writer who is very funny, his book about cycling around France - French Revolutions- made me cry with laughter. His other books are good too

I came in here to say Gerald Durrell! No matter how many times I read his books they still make me laugh out loud.

Myturnnow4 · 11/08/2015 20:57

English Passengers made me laugh. I also enjoy Bill Bryson and remember the James Herriot novels having a feel good factor and making me laugh (and cry) as a teenager.

CrispyFern · 11/08/2015 21:01

I love David Sedaris.

The only books that made me actually laugh have been by Jonathan Coe.

FrancesOldhamKelseyRIP · 11/08/2015 21:02

I love loads of these.

Not mentioned so far are two series which are very funny but also solidly plotted, Ben Aaronovich's Peter Grant novels and Sarah Caldwell's wildly snobbish legal detective novels - especially Thus Was Adonis Murdered, which is hilarious.
