What next after Roy Grace series?

Really got hooked on Peter James 'Roy Grace' series -have now read all 11 in the last three weeks and now suffering withdrawal symptoms.
Even DH who has just started #1 said he wants to know what happens next - normally he doesn't like my recommendations Grin
Reviews I have read seem lukewarm about other Peter James novels.
Since I am a MN sheep for everything anyway (baaaa!) please tell me what I should read next.

Stuart MacBride - Logan McRae series. Even better than Roy Grace, IMO!

Love this series!

A few books back Mr James was signing books in a shop a few towns away. I hopped on the train and stood in a line to get my book signed by him.

He gave me a kiss on the cheek. I am quite tall, he is not and stood on tippy-toes to do it. Grin He kissed all the women in the queue. Humpf

Ahem, have you read Alchemist? Grin

I second the Logan McRae books.
You might like Peter Robinson Inspector Banks series (although they are a bit formulaic)

Peter James's Perfect People is worth a try - I found it quite sinister if a bit far fetched.

Peter May - the Lewis Trilogy is very good.

Mark Billingham Tom Thorne series I think you would definitely like.

Quentin Jardine's Bob Skinner series is excellent, more of an ensemble cast and it helps to read the series in order, they take place over a considerable timescale and if you read them out of order you will get confused by changing ranks, roles and relationships.

11 books in 3 weeks. Envy. I haven't read the last one yet, because I always leave it a while to see if it goes to 99p. I have hundreds of unread kindle books, so it's not like I need any more.

Ann Cleeves has two very good series - Shetland and Vera - there's about another 10 there to keep you going.

Thank you - one of the advantages of the DCc now being teenagers - didn't manage to read whole book for years awhile they were small Grin

I'm saving book 11 for my holiday in 3 weeks. It's taking a lot of self control.

Agree with Logan McRae recommendation.

I like Lynda La Plante too. Check out the Anna Travers series if you haven't already read these.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 09/08/2015 20:05

Just to say (and not wanting to spoil for you) but found 11 disappointing after the others. Recommend having a Lee Child as an emergency reserve Grin

Thought you might say that. The last few haven't been as good as the originals.

I agree with Logan McRae and the Lewis trilogy, I'd also put in a word for the Simon Serrailler series (Susan Hill).
If you like Scandi crime, try the Department Q books by Jussi Adler-Olssen. I'm on no. 4 and really enjoying them.

I second the Mark Billingham, Ann Cleeves and Susan Hill series.
