started this today and only up to page 41. So far I am hooked and am hoping this feeling will continue. Has anyone else read it?

I am in the process of reading it.
I am in page 348.
A pure delight!
Language: crystal clear.
Two parallel stories: each on its own is gripping.
Chapters: each on its own is so well crafted: a pure bijou on its own.
Characters: each of them is well defined by life, inclination and history. No one is minor. Each of them is fascinating, even more so because each of them has its counterpart in the parallel story.
The sum of it all: We do not feel disoriented or confused or even repulsed and this despite the cruelty of some characters and on the WW2 background, this shameful period of the human history. There is even some strange yet calm humor in it ('the true Aryan is as blond as Hitler, as slim as Goring and as tall as Goebbels...' )
What will remain after I read it: I have not yet finished it. However a strong sense of acceptance of the human limits and conditions and of the absurd WW2 (and even WW1) is now being crafted in me- page by page- with some spark of hope for humanity: 'Now it seems there are only shadows and silence...So many windows are dark...' 'But there is a machine at work in the attic. A spark in the night'.
And there is even a plot- a magic plot!

glad you like it! I have this book but put off reading it as don't normally enjoy novels set anytime but today... Blush maybe I'll give it a go?

weasel
it is a bit slow paced if you see what I mean- but IMO the density (created by the parallel stories) makes up for it.
There are bits that you might like or dislike- the technical ones about radio transmitters and receptors especially. But you will see that this technicality has human meanings: what saves and serves you (engineering products/genius) can damn you, disconnect you and desensitize you to the word around; moreover in the parallel world there are machines that are a 'spark in the night'.
The plot is based on a legend- it might be a bit weak- it might be just symbolic - I shall see when I reach the end-; from the point of view of novel technicality : it really works well to give some unity to the parallel worlds and to bring them together.
There are books that grip me and I just want to know the end quickly and I 'skim' pages- and I jump pages backward and forward. This book I just savor it slowly: word by word, sentence by sentence, chapter by chapter (well not really- I am ADHD but this is overall my approach) .

Good Luck
