funnily enough I couldn't find it in the book

Do any of you know it?

perhaps because it sounds like scourge

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOT · 02/11/2006 19:18

and dirge

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOT · 02/11/2006 19:18

and verger (more tenuously)

EmmyLou · 02/11/2006 19:20

I love to read MNLS stories out loud. Will have to mull over which is my favourite whilst getting now chilly children (being watched by dd1 whilst i "make a cup of tea" on MN) out of the bath.

Bad mother lets children drown whist nerding on about MMM and MNLS on MN. Enough acronyms there?

serge

harpsichordsgoingBANGandWHOOSH · 02/11/2006 19:20

that rhyme has a distinctly Alison Uttley feel to it, doesn't it
there was a verger
on the verge
wearing serge
singing a dirge
his name was Herge
(he wrote Tin Tin)
he was not a man to splurge
or merge

EmmyLou · 02/11/2006 19:21

Serge makes me think of Tintin.

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOT · 02/11/2006 19:22

Sounds more Emily Dickinson to me

Nope, it's crap [grin[

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOT · 02/11/2006 19:22

I meant

harpsichordsgoingBANGandWHOOSH · 02/11/2006 19:24

oh so it's just a sort of twill
how crestfalling

EmmyLou · 02/11/2006 19:47

Quite Mary Poppins too - serge and twill.

FrannyonFire · 02/11/2006 20:55

I was thinking of Serge Gainsborough

much better

FrannyonFire · 02/11/2006 20:58

Oh, and dp made up a story tonight, about MMM getting crushed by an elephant

I came up to a slightly shaky looking ds and said "Well I am sure MMM was alright afterwards"

"No she wasn't! She was squashed quite flat wasn't she Daddy? She can't get up again because the elephant is standing on her!"

EmmyLou · 02/11/2006 21:14

Oh they just can NOT resist going too far, can they.

at thought of event slipping into F&Z household anecdote archive.

FrannyonFire · 02/11/2006 21:21

Am just concocting story for tomorrow about how MMM developed super strength and brushed the elephant off as if it were a speck of dust on her best serge dress

and oh dear what a shame

the elephant accidentally landed on DADDY

EmmyLou · 02/11/2006 21:34

I am not sure if we have ever read any MMM stories, but last summer returning from a holiday in Perigord dw out on a cassette as we were passing through Paris. It featured a rich girl who took all her friends to the circus, got the best seats, joined in all the acts, upset the circus manager etc. Does anyone recognize that?
DD listened for a while, but then wanted American Pie back on (for the 2 millionth time).

KatherinewheelMCMLXXII · 03/11/2006 12:34

That would be Pippi Longstocking, ClerkKent.

FrannyonFire · 03/11/2006 12:39

Yes Pippi wrestles with the strong man and beats him IIRC

I love those stories but dp loathes them for some reason.

Hmm.
