Have just finished Harriet Lane's Alys Always, which I enjoyed, although not as much as Her. Also liked We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves and before that, Rachel Joyce's Perfect. I liked Into The Darkest Corner and have read a couple of Sophie McKenzie's. Have done Before I Go To Sleep, Me Before You. Like Ian McEwan, too.
So, what would be a good book next?

I am quite enjoying Nicci French books at the moment. Found them in the library next to a Dawn French book that I had to read for Book Group.

I've just finished Land of The Living and last week read Killing Me Softly. I might work my way through the whole lot.

Have you read any Kate Atkinson? Her stuff is quirky and a little surreal. Also love her Jackson Brodie detective books.

I read Kate Atkinson's "When Will There Be Good News" - I really liked the beginning, but couldn't get on with it and didn't persevere Confused

I really enjoyed We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves and have followed it up with Big Brother by Lionel Shriver which I can recommend too. I find LS to be very good at capturing difficult relationships.

For something similar to the books you mention, what about early Sophie Hannah - Little Face or Hurting Distance - her later books are less good IMO.

Or you might enjoy Gillespie and I by Jane Harris. It's a longer read, a bit more literary, but similar in narrative tone. It's excellent.

There's loads of Nicci French books - if you take to them, you're in for a treat. They'll keep you going for ages.

The Good Girl by Mary Kubica is good, and in the same genre as Before I go to Sleep, Gone Girl etc.

Great, thanks for all the suggestions. highlandcoo, I forgot to mention that I'd read both those Sophie Hannah books. Interesting that you say that later ones aren't as good. I'll have a look for the Jane Harris one. I've got We Need To Talk About Kevin, but haven't read it, will give that a go. Lovely, this'll keep me occupied Smile
