I see Amazon have got lots of new books on offer for the next month. Two I'd recommend are Leah Fleming's The Girl Under the Oliver Tree (£1.49), set in wartime Crete, and if you're looking for something to make you laugh there's David Treanor's light-hearted travel adventure, Mission Mongolia at 99p.

Thanks Spex11, just what I need in time for the Easter hols. Any other recommendations anyone? I've taken a few chances based on the reviews

Not a great selection this time.
I enjoyed the dice man when I read it years ago and the phantom tollbooth.

NadiaWadia · 23/03/2015 17:25

Is there a link?

magimedi · 23/03/2015 17:35

I enjoyed Capital by John Lanchester. Great for a holiday read, engrossing but well written.

NadiaWadia · 23/03/2015 17:39

It's interesting that the same books keep coming up on offer again and again, (some quite good ones, too The Beggar King by Oliver Potzsch, The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory, Capital by John Lanchester, Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, all of which I got when they were previously on offer).

Some of the ones they keep pushing are by well-known authors as well, so you wouldn't think they would need to do this.

But some books are never on offer and the Kindle edition remains at £8 or something, which I refuse to pay! (Would rather wait and get a second-hand paperback).

magimedi · 23/03/2015 17:42

Nadia The other thing I find interesting is when I read the book review section of the w/e papers there is often a book I am interested in & when I go to put it on my wish list for my kindle, it is often already down by about £3/4 from the e-book price the paper quotes.

NadiaWadia · 23/03/2015 18:16

Really? You would think Amazon would use the fact that a book has been reviewed in the papers as a reason not to reduce the price. Or is it that they reckon they will increase the volume of sales and make more profit that way?

I wonder what the publishers and authors think and how much say they get?

MabelStark · 24/03/2015 17:32

Thank you for posting this - just bought The Good Girl by Mary Kubica for 99p - I've had my eye on this Grin

spex11 · 10/04/2015 17:04

I know the problem! Hope The Olive Tree shuffles its way up the list -- I thought it was very well written.
