Women's fiction recommendation

I'm on holiday and would love to get over involved with a book as I hardly have time to read these days (I'm an author and I find it hard not to adopt their voices...).

I've been quite into domestic noir/psych thrillers and loved The Book Of You and Into The Darkest Corner. Apple Tree Yard was my best book of last year.

I also like trad women's fiction - Lisa Jewell, Helen Walsh (sometimes) but I can't seem to find the gritty interesting stuff out there at the moment.

Any recommendations?

I've recently enjoyed Curtis sittenfeld - American wife, and sisterland. Not thrillers but written well and good characters.

Also liked apple tree yard will try to think of other similar books I've read recently.

LOVED american wife. Sisterland I felt didn't really go anywhere, but still think she's a great writer.

Not read the ones you mentioned so not sure of your taste but I loved alif the unseen by g.willow Wilson, one of the few books I have wanted to start again as soon as I finished

I've got similar taste to you. Currently enjoying Wreckage by emily bleeker. Maybe slightly more trashy than gritty though.
Also enjoyed whatever you love by Louise doughty too.

Maybe something by Liane Moriarty?

The Liar’s Chair by Rebecca Whitney is quite noir.

Summertime by Vanessa Lafaye, a novel based on true events in Florida and is well written.

(But look out for Hausfrau by Jill Alexander Essbaurm, a top read for 2015, out in a few days, beautifully written, quite noir!)

Just finished The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins - loved it, a real page turner and kept me guessing. Also recently finished I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh - lulls you into a false sense of security then BAM! Loved it.

I've recommended these two loads lately and like you I loved Appletree Yard and Into the Darkest Corner so hopefully you'll like them too.

Ooh! Mark Edwards -the magpies, brilliant and scared me. I like his other books too, but none as much as that.

I have just finished Apple Tree Yard and agree it is brilliant.
Have you tried anything by Simon Mawer, especially The Glass House?
I also loved Tigers in Red Weather but I can't remember the author.
