The two funniest books I've ever read - to the point where I daren't read them in public for fear of laughing til I was blue in the face- we're Lucky Jim by Kinglsey Amis and A Confederacy Of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. Both laugh out loud funny and brilliant writing.

CanYouForgiveHer thank you for reminding me of Augustus Carp. Must re-read! Smile at fellow Trollope fan!

Cooroo,

my brother in law read Trollope (and Mapp and Lucia and Carp etc) on my recommendations. He said that the scene where Rev. Crawley in The Last Chronicle of Barsetshire says "Peace Woman" to Mrs. Proudie and Bishop Proudie "starts at hearing the wife of his bosom thus addressed" are among the funniest he has read.

We should have a Trollope appreciation thread.

(One of my dds is Alice and I think it might be because of Alice Vavasour ... maybe)

Jeeves and Wooster and, trashily, The Diary of a Slummy Mummy.

Canyouforgiveher I am working through the audio books of AT read by Timothy West which I strongly recommend. He is the perfect voice for Trollope and very funny. There is a friendly Trollope Appreciation group on FB (assuming you're not one of those who avoids FB as work of the devil!).

Diary of a Provincial Lady - I've read it countless times and it's still funny

'A Fraction of the Whole' by Steve Toltz. Every single page has an eminently quotable brilliantly hilarious line.

The Gunseller by Hugh Laurie or Bossypants by Tina Fey.

Ok not highbrow but when I read Nick Spalding's "Love from both sides " and the subsequent books in this series I almost wet myself (not entirely due to decimated pelvic floor). It's cruder than I normally find funny but I laughed in spite of myself (clutching my pearls of course)

Ditto Provincial Lady - warm nice chuckle-inducing book.

The Tent, the bucket and me

Anything by Jasper Fforde

Definitely P G Wodehouse and Three Men in a Boat

I know this is a bit cheeky, but I've just published an ebook - a comedy diary called 'Diary of a Stressed Out Mother' on Amazon, and would love some feedback from people who love funny books. Please download the free sample and let me know what you think!
