'I am Malala' -suitable for a 9 year old?

DD is asking to read 'I am Malala' - can anyone who has read it offer an opinion on its suitability?
She knows the outline of Malala's story so is across the prejudice and obviously I'd discuss the violence and contempt for women with her - but will a 9 year old make it through the political/historical context of the book? Is there a lot of that?
I'd hate DD to be put off an inspiring story because she read it too soon and got bogged down.

I would say that it would be too demanding for a 9 year old (quite complex historical context and most of this was ghost-written, well I'd add; Malala's voice shines through later in the book). In December a young reader's edition was published, why don't you look on Amazon and check out a few chapters first? I think it would be a lovely gift whichever version you choose and she could keep it forever. Good luck.

Ah, a young readers edition, perfect, thanks Babelang. I do want to encourage her, so that's ideal.
Thank you!

I've just come on here to ask if it is suitable for my 11-year-old: I asked in water stones today about the young readers' edition and she thought it wasn't being published until August. Did you manage to get hold of it?
