Came to say Trisha Ashley; they are somewhat trashy, but it's time she wrote another one Blush.

The mapp and Lucia series by EF benson (recent series on iplayer still) is brilliant, it's supposed to be set in Rye so not quite a village but similar feel.

There's The Village by Mrghanita Laski set at the end of WWII. It's a bit like reading a black and white afternoon film if you see what I mean.

The radio 4 Agatha Raisin plays are excellent, with Penelope Keith as Agatha.
