I know it's aimed at a younger audience, but my goodness it had me sobbing into my pillow last night Blush Anyone else?

I made a very bad decision to watch it on a recent flight, yes I was that very strange looking woman desperately trying not to blub and failing miserably !

hackmum · 21/11/2014 17:14

Yes, it was really sad. Thought it was very well done for a YA book - very touching.

northernmummeh · 21/11/2014 17:20

I must be dead on the inside Blush everyone was telling me how they weeded while reading it. I just found it all a bit predictable Blush

northernmummeh · 21/11/2014 17:22

Weeded?! lol

Weeped

Weeped!

A

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/11/2014 17:22

Yes, I found it very moving.

Agggghast · 25/11/2014 18:27

I thought it was moving but You Shouldn't Have to Say Goodbye destroyed me.

InfinitySeven · 25/11/2014 18:28

I didn't find it that moving, but I saw straight through the plot. I think I prepared myself for it because it was so obvious, so it didn't hit me.

CalicoBlue · 25/11/2014 22:23

I did not like it. Could not get into it and stopped reading after about a third of the book.

MorelliOrRanger · 30/11/2014 09:37

I didn't cry but enjoyed the book immensely.

Did you know john green wrote it based on a girl he met years ago?

PacificDogwood · 30/11/2014 09:40

I thought it captured the 'dealing with mortality and sickness' and 'being a teenager' all at the same time very well.

I liked it, but did not sob Grin

"Before I die' otoh… floods of tears.

SkaterGrrrrl · 01/12/2014 22:24

I loved it. Film is sweet too.

Calmthefeckdown · 09/12/2014 02:26

What age is it suitable for? My 11yr old dd reckons half her class have read it (she's at secondary) but I'm not sure about its content for her. I have no interest in reading it beforehand - too sad for me

MorelliOrRanger · 09/12/2014 05:23

I'm not sure I would want my 11 yo to read it tbh. Though I do think it's aimed at teenagers.

CuttedUpPear · 09/12/2014 07:52

It's got sex in it so I don't think suitable for an 11yo.

I read it and cried!
The characters are really well written.

Takver · 09/12/2014 13:56

DD is 12 in yr 8, I'd think it's very likely half your dd's yr 7 class has read it, they're all madly into John Green at her school. I've skimmed it & wasn't particularly taken (found it a bit soppy) but I wouldn't have had a problem with her reading it last year, in fact she might have been 11 when she read it, can't remember.

There may be sex in it, but it's all very 'responsible' IYKWIM, and I guess lots of YA books that they'll be reading in 2ndary have sex in . . . (Hunger Games / Divergent / Mortal Instruments etc etc )

PacificDogwood · 09/12/2014 16:20

There is the allusion to sex in it - no description of actual sex IYKWIM.

Many 11 yo read it and like it.

Calmthefeckdown · 09/12/2014 19:16

Thanks all.

Letmeeatcakecakecake · 06/01/2015 21:47

I really wish I looked for some spoilers before starting this book.

I actually had Osteosarcoma, the same as Augustus... So I was bawling/grieving whilst reading this!
