I've had a tough year and just want to surround myself in good things...

How great- I would love to meet him. He doesn't live too far away either. What did he talk about?

The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder.

Angela Carter Heroes and Villains.

I see a lot of you liked Gilead. I thought it uunbearably over- written and too self conciously " beautifully written". And quite dull.

Oh and Richard Marius An Affair of Honour.

The Hours - Michael Cunningham
One Hundred Years of Solidtude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
The Life of Pi

All absolutely beautiful. X

The Dead (Joyce). The final para is particularly beautiful, lyrical. Once read, never forgotten.

Definitely The Time Traveller's Wife. It's one of my all time favourites but I've had to stop myself from re-reading it any more because I get too upset at one particular sentence at the end. I can't even think about it without nearly crying!

I also have "A summer book" and haven't read it yet - that's on my to-do list over xmas!
