I cant concentrate on anything too complicated or wordy .

I want something a bit funny and i don't mind if its a bit naff .

Generally I enjoy Christopher Brookmyre and i have just read Before the Fall which i really enjoyed .

Please help a poorly soul to stop feeling so pathetic.

My normal poorly or grumpy reading is any of the James Herriot books by the way .

My "stinking cold" books were Agatha Christies for a long time - just the perfect length and keeps the brain working :) Failing that, some soppy Katie Fforde romances - my guilty secret (love them, they never fail to make me feel better).

My chicken soup book is The Diary of a Provincial Lady. Gently witty.

The Hundred year old man who climbed out of the window and disappeared by Jonas Jonasson
A very amusing read

Chronicles of St Mary's, by Jodi Taylor. The first one is called 'Just One Damned Thing After Another'.

I am part of the way through We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves and I just don't care enough about it to carry on.

Anything by Liane Moriaty - especially What Alice Forgot

NuggetofPurestGreen · 11/08/2014 18:28

Both surely OP.

Good point well made nugget , so it might not just be my stinky cold not being arsed with the book then ?

Thanks for all the recommendations so far , i am looking forward to them .

My plan is an early night with a hot toddy and a good book in bed .

The reality however may be different. Skanky tissues and a coughing fit and a lot of whinging could be more likely .

I'd suggest a different approach, avoid funny and try 'Flu' and 'Fever' by Wayne Simmons.

Jill Mansell writes a good, escapist love story if you're after some chick flick stuff. Another vote for Katie Fforde - cosy love stories, like wearing your favourite slippers!

I Partridge "by" Alan Partridge- really funny and well-crafted: not just a cash-in on the tv series.
