Have you tried 'the truth about Kevin' that is a terrifying little book, and I read it while pregnant with dd!!!! how much extra worry about bonding.
Child called it does need to be read in order, but lost my copy. sorry can't help.
it also made me weep.

mumtogusnalbie · 15/09/2006 21:37

Hi, I have A Child Called It which I would be willing to let you have.
If you email me on [email protected] and let me know your address I will send it on.
Both books are excellent and I am now looking for a copy of A Man Called Dave which I believe is the next one in the series.
Cheers
Lindsey

How long do you think he'll milk that Dave thing d'you think?

'A middle aged geyser named Dave'

'A newly separated Dave'

'Dave on the cusp of retirement'

'Dave,reflecting on years of misery'

'Looking back:Dave takes stock'

Beetroot · 16/09/2006 10:37

Dont read the kevin book!!!

3andnomore · 16/09/2006 11:02

lol at moondog....
Beetroot...what do you mean??? That you haven't read it or that one shouldn't read it, lol...sorry, am easily confused!

OP posts:
Beetroot · 16/09/2006 13:31

I found it awful to read. Depressing, badly written and just exhasuting

ledodgyrobespierre · 16/09/2006 13:40

I'm a few pages into the kevin book, Beetroot should I stop now?

3andnomore · 16/09/2006 22:58

Hm...really can't agree with that...ok, yes depressing it is...but then, his childhood wasn't exaclty endeering...so...sort of what you expect, isn't it?
I felt it was heartfelt and a very personal account, and that is what that book is about!

3andnomore · 16/09/2006 22:59

3andnomore · 17/09/2006 08:41

Oh and who is the "Truth about Kevin " book by? Can't find that on Amzon...did find, however one by Lionel Shriver and Lorelei something or otehr along the lines "we need to talk about Kevin"

OP posts:
Jaffacake1 · 17/09/2006 22:50

Lionel Shriver did write it, sorry to confuzzle you all,,,,the Kevin book is about a high school shooting....was it caused by Kevin being born evil, or by mummy not bonding with him. It scared me as I hoped I would bond with my baby, obviously. It is weird to read, thought provoking, but also horrible so you must have dtrong stomachs. X

Jaffacake1 · 17/09/2006 22:51

by 'dtrong' I think I mean 'strong'. V tired xxxx

loopylou0612 · 17/09/2006 22:52

I have "A man called Dave" if anyone wants it but i dont know where the other 2 are.

QueenEagle · 17/09/2006 22:53

I have the book in the Child Called... series, rivetting yet awful reading.

Jaffacake1 · 17/09/2006 22:55

moondog,,,,I would like to read the 'Dave takes stock' finale. Nice.

Beetroot · 18/09/2006 09:08

Kevin is the one I would not bother reading!

crazymaybe · 18/09/2006 19:13

i have all the DAVE books if anyone wants. the second one was the best.

is it just me, or has there been a new and sudden influx of those kind of books on the bookshelves?

behind closed doors was especially poignant. a very good read.

have just started reading handstands in the dark. any comments?

have tried ti read 'we need to talk about kevin' at least three times now, but just couldnt get into it. at what point does it become rivetting?

I have read all the Dave Pulzer ones, but to be honest they kind of irritated me.

Whilst I dont doubt he was unhappy growing up, some of thse things were just way beyond believable IMO. And he was definately milking it by the 3rd one.

ozharrysmum · 30/09/2006 07:56

I read one of these books but dont want to believe mothers could hurt thier children in this way so would not read any of the others. Or any more like it....love or work moondog!

Munz · 30/09/2006 08:03

read the dave series - don't knwo how any mother can do that to their child - I tell u it made me really angry reading it and sad but angry on his behalf.
