I received an email from Amazon about this today - hadn't realised that she was writing any fiction (or that she'd had her oft-mentioned teenage writing published either). I'm tempted to pre-order - it's out on Thursday - as she does rather make me laugh and the blurb sounds interesting. Anyone else?

Oh god I am sick of the bug eyed capering and zany wide gobbed tongue pokes too. And her interview with Jamie Oliver was embarrassing- I felt embarrassed for her because she came across as an immature star fucker.

The Times are ridiculously pushing her. Stop! Enough already.

Southeastdweller · 27/08/2014 21:37

Yes I agree about J.O. I felt the same last year about her interview with Benedict Cumberbatch.

CorporateRockWhore · 27/08/2014 21:37

And I really hate her hair.

Badvoc123 · 27/08/2014 21:47

I used to really like her, but she is just everywhere now.
And she isn't really saying or doing anything new.
Yes, the J.O article was cringeworthy.
I made her apologise on her web chat for using the word "retard" twice in her book.
That didn't go down well with some MNers!
It's a shame.
She has started believing her own hype I think.

mignonette · 27/08/2014 22:16

YY to falling for her own hype. Remember that quote by her where she claimed to have taught a generation of girls to masturbate and apply eyeliner? I so hoped that was a misquote because does she truly think none of us oldies were doing this pre 1980? CM fails to pay her dues and respect to those who have gone before her and is revisionist to the nth degree.

I can remember reading a piece where she took the piss out of Kate Bush. Now of course she is her greatest fan. Same with most of the bands she now claims to love.

Badvoc123 · 27/08/2014 22:19

She is amazingly cruel and rude about lots of people, and then...hang on...no...she actually likes them now. And so should we...because she does!
Erm...no.
I really liked some of her articles for the The Times (don't read them now as I won't line murdochs pocket with the paywall) the one about library closures was very good.
I was really sad after the web chat.
Heroes...feet of clay and all that :(

Badvoc123 · 27/08/2014 22:21

She was quite nasty about ed Sheeran on twitter apparently.
He then tweeted her and said something like "sorry you don't like me"
So, now she does....!?
It's all a bit school playground for my liking tbh.

mignonette · 27/08/2014 22:40

Yes I won't forget the nasty, immature slang terms regarding MH and LD's from her and her cronies. One of those puerile twitter mutual masturbation circles where they all pleasure each other by flattery.

Badvoc123 · 27/08/2014 22:44

Just makes me sad that a grown woman would think it ok to use these terms and that it got through the editorial process...
I think she needs to be careful tbh.
And have a break from twitter!

mignonette · 27/08/2014 23:20

Check out the spelling and grammatical errors on her website .

Link.

BringMeTea · 28/08/2014 07:56

Jeebus! Seriously, her nvoel is a re-hash. And independAnt. Wowser! Did she write this? Ha ha.

Nerf · 28/08/2014 08:06

Same box as Russell brand. Interesting initially, same old for ever, no depth, impressive to people of limited intelligence who think he's a political intellectual and she's a feminist genius. Stephen fry could join them.

mignonette · 28/08/2014 10:07

Nerf

Oh yes. Wink

BringMeTea · 28/08/2014 11:19

Oh ladies have I found my spiritual home? I sometimes cringe for Russell Brand. I found it astonishing that people were suggesting he had 'got one over' on Paxman. Paxman was clearly showing excellent manners.

IsabelleAdjani · 28/08/2014 12:45

I read How to build a Girl on holiday and only finished it as had nothing left to read. The other book I read was Animals, by Emma Jane Unsworth, endorsed by CM - both shite. Surely she can't milk the growing up in council house in Wolverhampton on benefits blablabla any more. Find her, Lauren Laverne, Sali Hughes, India Knight etc are like the self-appointed cool kids at school on Twitter - mutually self-flatter and tend to pick on people who don't conform to their standards - especially as according to CM, feminism is just "the guys. Being polite to each other". She is clearly not a feminist in that case as she has failed to be polite on numerous occasions.
I am no fan of Liz Jones but the way they ganged up on her (and others) makes a mockery of CM's supposed feminism. Don't plan to read anything else by her. Sali Hughes is prob going to come on her and tell me off now :)

IsabelleAdjani · 28/08/2014 12:45

On here :)

Southeastdweller · 28/08/2014 16:10

Completely agree Isabelle. I can't stand that schoolyard mentality.

So you remember when Sali came on here a couple of years ago to defend I.K, then? Grin

Nerf · 28/08/2014 16:11

Yup spiritual home of loathing silly pedestal types

IsabelleAdjani · 28/08/2014 17:40

Southeast Sali Hughes coming on here to defend IK one of my favourite threads ever - totally priceless. But to get back to HTBAG, found it repetitive, not very well written and nothing I hadn't read before (several times). Wouldn't have even considered it if CM hadn't written it. I am the same age as her so references to late 80s/early 90s were spot on but def not worth the hype it has received or the hysterical endorsments.

mignonette · 29/08/2014 10:41

Ah yes, Salli who grossly misunderstood what was said for a feminist attack on her profession. Then wrote a column shortly after singing the praises of IK (total non coincidence- that- not).

I did love India Knights book on shopping which was a light bit of froth but her own ugly use of pejorative terms whilst thinking she flies the flag for social commentary is a bit if a laugh. Having a child with SN does NOT give you the right to use such terms and the argument that we (as in family members of people with SN) are reclaiming such words is indolent BS.

Suzannewithaplan · 31/08/2014 11:13

I agree that she belongs in the same category as Russell Brand, mildly amusing at first but ultimately a one trick pony and intellectually disappointing.

I found her life story tedious, clichéd and self indulgent even on first reading.

scottishmummy · 31/08/2014 11:22

I think caitlin is funny, well observed.good on radio.but limited frothy range
Feminism lite,sugar and content free
