It is such a beautiful book. Those metaphors! I'm trying to force it upon everyone I know.

Nerf · 31/05/2014 10:21

I did that with The Greengage Summer. This might be everybody's christmas present this yearSmile

Just downloaded it and will start it when I finish the book I am currently reading.

Nerf · 31/05/2014 19:21

Excellent!

Loved it. Heard a lot of hype about it on YA blogs and for once was not disappointed. Will read it again now.

Reading More Than This by Patrick Ness - probably my fave YA author. It's excellently bizarre.

ThingsThatShine · 31/05/2014 19:32

Oh thanks for the recommendations on this thread! I have been trying out some YA recently and enjoying it. Would have previously never really dreamt of reading it as an adult but there is some good stuff out there.

Nerf · 31/05/2014 19:50

I know! It seems like a step backwards doesn't it, like we are all reading Dostoevsky as adults!

Adding to my amazon list.
Thanks Smile

AreYouSirius · 31/05/2014 19:53

Alpha, I just finished reading More Than This and I was thoroughly disappointed considering how much hype it gets! I liked it, but I didn't quite get it. I do like Crane Wife and The Chaos Walking Series, so I was a little disappointed.

Nerf · 31/05/2014 20:42

I shall try more than this.
I want you all to come back and talk to me about my new favourite book though.

TheOneAndOnlyAlpha · 31/05/2014 20:47

Hmm. I've read some more AreYouSirius and it's all getting a bit too Matrix rip off. I shall finish though.

I love YA, despite not being one for a long time Grin

Have a look at John Green's novels, and Looking For JJ by Anne Cassidy.

stilllearnin · 01/06/2014 10:01

I like YA (mainly as the sex and violence are more manageable for my newly developed midlife prudery!). Just downloaded we are liars for £2.99

revolutionarytoad · 01/06/2014 11:50

I just came to this board to start a YA enthusiast thread!

I love YA lit! When I was a kid and reading it I always got frustrated because I found it kinda patronising as a genre, how everything was dealt with in a bit of a sugarcoated way.....like, "we'll let you read what we think you should read".....I still think teens should be steered towards a much wider range of fiction/etc.
But what ho. Now I'm out of the age range it's great Grin I have a recommendation- The Miseducation of Cameron Post. The main character is very attractive, smart, it's a long book so you get your teeth into it and it's well written.

Went on a bit of a YA fiction spree a while ago and am currently reading Anna and the French Kiss...I know, I know, sounds awful. It is a bit awful actually. But fun still.

Have something by John Green waiting for me, Looking for Alaska? Buzzfeed told me to order it...

Nerf · 01/06/2014 13:29

That's my next one. I have that and the fault in our stars in the kindle.

OP posts:
Nocomet · 01/06/2014 13:35

Shamelessly place marking as I have 13 (fault in our stars is in her bed at the moment) and 16y YA fiction sponges here and it's nice to point them in new directions. I might even read some myself rather than spending so long here.

Nerf · 01/06/2014 14:30

Meg rosoff did an amazing book called how I live now.

Sallystyle · 01/06/2014 15:58

Fault in our stars is beautiful.

More than this was really disappointing.

My favourite though is Alex and Parks. Beautiful little book.

TheOneAndOnlyAlpha · 01/06/2014 16:02

Just picked up Fangirl from the library.

Trouble by Non Pratt is next in my list.

AreYouSirius · 01/06/2014 17:10

I get to read YA Books as a job so I know way too much on the topic (luckily, it's my favourite genre) Grin. Fangirl was one of my favourite reads of 2013. For those who haven't read TFIOS yet - you are definitely in for a treat, if a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. Looking for Alaska is my favourite Green book though.
I also just finished a book called Say Her Name by James Dawson. It's out on Thursday, would recommend it if you can handle being a bit terrified for a few hours. His second book, Cruel Summer is also really fantastic. He's fast becoming one of my favourite UK YA authors.

TheOneAndOnlyAlpha · 01/06/2014 18:00

WHAT IS YOUR JOB AND CAN I WORK FOR YOU!!

Though I also read a lot for me job too Grin
